A Week In The Hub: 9th-15th March 2014

The last seven days have been a bit strange. Other than some bits and bobs with regards to the really big hitters, things have been a little quiet on the news front. We’ve still covered it, and brought you a few new reviews, but compared to previous weeks things were rather tranquil so expect this edition of A Week In The Hub to be pretty swift.

We’ll start with our reviews, of which the last seven days saw two new review articles go live. First up we saw our thoughts on The Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 2 go out to the masses. Clementine has had to face an awful lot in her young life but the goings on in ‘A House Divided’ are both hard hitting and emotional. We said it was ‘one of, if not the, most engrossing episode of The Walking Dead to date’ and it’s certainly moved Season 2 on at a frightening pace. Episode 3: In Harm’s Way is now right at the top of our most wanted list.

Rolling alongside our The Walking Dead S2 E2 review is something that couldn’t be any more different. We said Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare is ‘at it’s very best,….a unique hilarious shooter with some well thought out maps’ but even with some decent humour and a new direction from the usual Plants and Zombies style we couldn’t score it any higher than a straight down the middle 3*. The lack of depth is slightly worrying and as I type this the majority of the world will be playing Titanfall having no doubt forgotten about Garden Warfare completely. The maps may be good, but once you’ve played them a few times each, there isn’t really an awful lot to drag you back in.

Shall we blame Titanfall for taking us away from Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare? Yes, lets do that. But lets also blame Titanfall for taking us away from near enough every other game under the sun. If we’re honest, this weekend the majority of Xbox One owners will be taking down Titans at a fairly rapid rate but if you are one of the few who haven’t yet jumped on board, then you may wish to check out our Titanfall review round up post or wait for our own review to go live in the next couple of days. Just believe us when we say it’s flipping awesome!

We saw a decent number of game trailers get released in the last seven days, some detailing games we didn’t know an awful lot about – see Tales from the Borderlands and Costume Quest 2 – a few that we already had a few inklings over – Nutjitsu, Gone Home and Enemy Front – and then a couple that we’ve covered pretty extensively already – Yep, that’ll be MXGP – The Official Motocross Videogame and the superb looking, hotly anticipated Alien Isolation. All are worth a watch but beware of the first two mentioned above as once you’ve heard a little more with regards to Costume Quest 2 and Tales from the Borderlands it is guaranteed that you’ll want even more!

And then finally this week there was the small matter of Twitch broadcasting coming to Xbox One. The Twitch app has been around for some time already but the introduction of broadcasting has just taken the whole thing to the next level. Every man, his dog AND his cat are streaming their wares from Xbox One via Twitch and we at TheXboxHub are no different. You can catch our streams at TheXboxHub and when his slow dial up connection allows it, at oKid_UKo.

So that’s it from us for another week but thanks go out to all who entered our competition to win an Xbox 360 copy of South Park The Stick of Truth. We’ll have news on the winner soon but in the meantime feel free to follow us on Twitter (congrats to us for rolling over the 1000 tweets mark), check out our G+, Facebook and Instagram pages or subscribe to our YouTube channel. That’s the channel which has smashed through the 10,000 views barrier and is now working it’s way rather rapidly towards the magical 20,000 views.

Not bad, and much appreciation goes out to you lot for helping us reach those superb figures.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
