New additions – and removals – hit Game Pass

The Xbox Game Pass library is bracing for another week of exciting shifts, welcoming a diverse quartet of new titles while bidding adieu to a departing crew.

From early access adventures and open-world exploration to strategic city-building and blockbuster action, there’s a fresh wave of experiences heading your way. Let’s dive into what’s new and what’s saying goodbye this coming week.

Fresh Arrivals on Game Pass

Towerborne (Game Preview) (Cloud, PC, and Xbox Series X|S) – April 29th

Step into the early stages of adventure with Towerborne, a new action RPG currently in Game Preview.

Developed by Stoic Studio, Towerborne invites players to become Aces, heroes who rise to defend the land of Lumnys from the forces of darkness.

Expect a blend of exploration, combat, and community as the game evolves through its Game Preview journey.

Just remember, Game Preview means that this is a work in progress and not a full release.

Far Cry 4 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – April 30th

Prepare for a thrilling open-world adventure in the breathtaking and dangerous landscapes of Kyrat with Far Cry 4.

As Ajay Ghale, you’ll return to your homeland to fulfil your mother’s dying wish, only to be caught in a civil war against the tyrannical Pagan Min.

Explore a diverse environment, engage in intense firefights, and utilise a variety of vehicles and weapons in this critically acclaimed action-adventure.

Anno 1800 (Cloud, PC, and Xbox Series X|S) – May 1st

Become a pioneer of the industrial revolution in Anno 1800, a deep and engaging city-building and economic simulation game.

Lead the way in technological progress, construct sprawling metropolises, manage complex production chains, and navigate the intricate world of 19th-century trade and diplomacy.

Whether you focus on industry, trade, or exploration, Anno 1800 offers a rich and rewarding strategic experience.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (Cloud, Console, and PC) – May 1st

The blockbuster action returns with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. Dive into a gripping narrative campaign, engage in intense multiplayer battles across a variety of maps and modes, and experience the cooperative Special Ops missions.

As part of the Game Pass Ultimate library, subscribers can jump into the latest installment of this iconic franchise.

Farewell to These Titles on April 30th

As new adventures begin, others must conclude their time on Game Pass. The following games will be leaving the service soon, so be sure to revisit them before they depart.

Check out our reviews and thoughts…

  • EA Sports NHL 23 (Console, EA Play) – “The accessibility provided and the customisable experience found in NHL 23 make it perfect for fans of the sport, and even those who have never tried an EA hockey game before. And that’s the heart of hockey isn’t it? All are welcome to take part and have fun.
  • Have a Nice Death (Cloud, Console, and PC) – “There is a lot of personality in Have a Nice Death. The animation is fluid and the character and sound design are phenomenal. It is a challenging game that doesn’t forgive mistakes, so it won’t be fun for those looking for a casual game. But if you like a roguelike that will push you to the edge, Have a Nice Death is a welcome addition to your game library.
  • Kona II Brume (Cloud, Console, and PC) – “You will love the chance to explore the world of Kona II: Brume. The story feels more beefed up, and I love how it tells a good tale with a heady mixture of different genres, moving from thriller to horror.
  • Sniper Elite 5 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – “Sniper Elite 5 is the very definition of a no-brainer. Almost literally, if you can nail the headshots!
  • The Last Case of Benedict Fox (Cloud, Console, and PC) – “All in all, I have loved my time with this game. There are slight issues with combat in the early stages, but the exploration and puzzles on offer in The Last Case of Benedict Fox are very good indeed; they will keep you playing as you attempt to get to the bottom of the mystery. A challenging and involving game, the aesthetics of the whole world just add to the charm.
  • Thirsty Suitors (Cloud, Console, and PC) – “Thirsty Suitors may not boast the best mechanics or the flashiest gimmicks, but it more than makes up for that by telling a wonderfully evocative, charming and often funny story. In my mind, it achieves exactly what the developers set out to do. And that is something that should be celebrated.
  • The Rewinder (Cloud, Console, and PC) – “If you are after a journey into the East with a great story and unusual mechanics, then The Rewinder could be up your alley.

This week’s Game Pass update delivers a solid mix of fresh experiences and a final chance to revisit some notable titles. Be sure to jump into the new arrivals and give those departing games one last playthrough before they leave the service.

But What’s Next For Game Pass?

With the end of the month, we await full confirmation of May’s new Game Pass drops. What we do know is that DREDGE lands on May 6th, and we think that is a near must-play game.

Other than that, DOOM: The Dark Ages continues the blasting action on May 15th. We’ll keep you looped as further games are confirmed.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
