ACA NEOGEO Stakes Winner brings retro horse racing to Xbox One

Latest Reviews

If you’re a horse racing fan, then your only gaming option has been to take in the absolutely dire Horse Racing 2016, letting you put your jockey skills to the test. Now though a second game comes running into view – but whether or not it’ll push the horse racing genre to the next level is very much up for debate.

See, the latest ACA NEOGEO title to hit Xbox One is that of ACA NEOGEO Stakes Winner, a ‘realistic’ jockey action game that was first released by SNK back in 1995.

It comes priced at £6.39, and by using your whip, formation split and hyper dash skills (whatever the hell they are), you’ll be tasked with powering your beloved horse through a variety of races.

Game difficulty settings are now in place, as are worldwide leaderboards, but whether either of those are worthy additions to a game that is obviously only going to cater to a certain subset of gamer is for you to decide.

If you wish to give it a shot, then the Microsoft Store is ready to take your hard earned cash. Go pay it a visit.

Game Description:

STAKES WINNER is a realistic jockey action game released in 1995 by SNK. Use skills such as showing the whip, formation split and hyper dash, collect items on the course, and power-up your beloved horse in this multifaceted game. Ride with your horse through a variety of races as you aim to conquer the GI. The “ACA NEOGEO” series has faithfully reproduced many classic NEOGEO masterpieces. Players can change various game settings such as game difficulty, and also reproduce the atmosphere of arcade display settings at that time. Players can also compete against each other from all over the world with their high scores. Please enjoy the masterpiece that built a generation for video games. *This title is based off the MVS (NEOGEO for arcades) version. There may be differences between this version and the versions for the home NEOGEO console and other home consoles.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
