Airplane Flight Simulator Combat Zone – taking flight on Xbox and PC

Not every flight game is about calm cruising and perfect landings. Airplane Flight Simulator: Combat Zone heads in a different direction, blending open-world flying with combat scenarios that keep you constantly on the move.

Now available on Xbox Series X|S and PC, it offers a more action-driven take on the genre, where staying airborne is only part of the challenge.

More Than Just A Flight Sim

Airplane Flight Simulator: Combat Zone doesn’t lean fully into realism for its own sake. Instead, it mixes traditional flight mechanics with a steady stream of combat encounters, giving players a reason to stay engaged beyond simply exploring the skies.

You’ll still find detailed cockpits, realistic controls, and dynamic weather conditions shaping each flight, but the focus quickly shifts once enemies enter the picture. Whether it’s ground vehicles or rival aircraft, there’s always something to track, target, and take down.

The game’s open-world maps give you room to explore, but they’re far from empty. Different environments and weather systems create varied conditions, meaning no two flights feel quite the same.

Combat On Multiple Fronts

Engagements aren’t limited to dogfights in the air. You’ll also be targeting ships, tanks, and other ground-based threats, which adds a layer of variety to how missions play out.

Switching between aerial and ground-focused combat keeps things moving, especially when situations escalate and require quick reactions.

And there’s a noticeable effort to keep things approachable without stripping away the feel of flying a real aircraft. Controls aim to strike a middle ground, offering enough depth to feel satisfying while remaining accessible for those who aren’t looking for a full simulation experience.

Not Competing With The Giants – But Offering Something Different

It’s fair to say this won’t rival the scale or depth of Microsoft Flight Simulator. When we looked at that, we found it delivered a “vast and immersive aviation experience” with plenty of depth for long-term play.

Airplane Flight Simulator: Combat Zone takes a different route. It’s less about realism at every level and more about giving players a mix of flying and combat in a more contained package. For some, that shift in focus might actually be part of the appeal.

A Straightforward Flight Experience With A Combat Edge

At £15.74 from the Xbox Store, Airplane Flight Simulator: Combat Zone sits in an interesting space. It’s not aiming to replace the heavyweights of the genre, but it does offer a more accessible alternative with a clear emphasis on action.

If you’re after a flight game that lets you jump in, take control, and get straight into the action, this might be worth a look.
