Original Article:

Frictional Games, they behind the likes of the Amnesia series and the brilliant SOMA, have today revealed their latest title – Amnesia: The Bunker. Set to release in 2023, it threatens to reinvent the rules of horror.

Coming to PC (Steam and Epic), Xbox and PlayStation at some point in 2023, Amnesia: The Bunker will be the next instalment in the Amnesia franchise. It’s one that fans of the series, or fans of horror in general, will no doubt have huge interest in, as they get given the opportunity to run free. Choosing your own unique playstyle is the key here, with your actions impacting the gameplay itself, all as the semi-open world unveils itself.

Amnesia: The Bunker will come with very few scripted events, a ton of tension and the opportunity for players to prove themselves as survival champs.

But it’ll be different to the games which have come before it and Amnesia: The Bunker will feature a new kind of horror survival adventure that incorporates emergent gameplay and sandbox elements into the mix. See, it’ll be the players themselves who will be in total control of their moment-to-moment decisions. Armed with a revolver gun and a noisy dynamo flashlight, you’ll be found walking the course of an ill-lighted WW1 bunker in the shoes of a French soldier troubled by his amnesia and hunted by an otherworldly creature.

From there, expect to be tested in various ways – your cleverness, your courage, your ability to keep cool and your problem solving decisions. With multiple solutions available for each and every task you are confronted with, Amnesia: The Bunker should offer up much.

Of course, it’ll be the world of Amnesia: The Bunker which mostly encourages the player to explore and experiment, using wits and whatever tools are at their disposal to overcome the looming horrors. Players will feel a stressful amount of power in their hands and every decision will change the outcome of how the game responds as a consequence of the choices made.

Frictional Games hope that this new twist in gameplay will be able to add new depths and constant tension to the game, forcing players to create new strategic paths in every playthrough.

The key game features will include:

  • Player choice – emergent gameplay in a sandbox horror survival experience
  • Unscripted environment – objects, threats, and resources, change in every playthrough
  • Adaptive horrid threats – an ever-present gruesome creature that stalks the player.
  • Tactile immersion – all-new levels of interaction with the world through puzzle-solving and tool handling
  • Absorbing yet terrifying tale – experience hell on earth in a fictional appalling story
  • Engrossing atmosphere and tension – enhanced lighting effects and carefully designed sound effects for a real horror experience.

Frictional Games have promised to provide more info going forward. All you need to know for now though is that Amnesia: The Bunker will be coming to Xbox, PlayStation and PC (Steam, Epic) in 2023.

You’d do well to check out the trailer.
