Formula Legends – coming to PC and console

Get ready to hit the apex with a brand new arcade racing experience – Formula Legends.

Italian studio 3DClouds, known previously for licensed titles like Paw Patrol World and Hot Wheels: Monster Trucks Stunt Mayhem, has today unveiled Formula Legends.

This vibrant “over-the-spoiler” racer, designed to playfully emulate the drama and history of open-wheeled motorsport, is speeding towards a release later this year on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store).

Drawing inspiration from accessible yet deep racers like Art of Rally and Circuit Superstars (how we still love Circuit Superstars!), Formula Legends aims to blend pick-up-and-play fun with surprising strategic nuance.

While the core handling promises arcade immediacy, players will also need to contend with realistic elements that impact the race.

Arcade Feel, Strategic Depth

Formula Legends isn’t just about holding the accelerator down. To succeed, you’ll need to manage:

  • Tyre Wear & Fuel Consumption: Push too hard, and you’ll pay the price. Strategic pit stops will be crucial.
  • Dynamic Conditions: Changeable weather can turn a race on its head, demanding adaptability. Rubbering-in of the racing line will also evolve track conditions.
  • Damage Simulation: Mistakes can have consequences for your car’s performance.
  • Racecraft Elements: Mastering techniques like battery management and slipstreaming will be key to finding that extra tenth.

A Drive Through Motorsport History

3DClouds is packing Formula Legends with content inspired by decades of iconic racing:

  • Legendary Cars: Get behind the wheel of 16 unique car models spanning different eras, each featuring 7 different iconic liveries (totalling 112 vehicles).
  • Iconic Circuits, Reimagined: Race on 14 tracks inspired by beloved historic racing locations, featuring unique twists.
  • Legends Behind the Wheel: Compete against over 200 fictional drivers, inspired by real-life icons, each with unique skills (tyre whisperers, wet-weather masters, etc.).
  • Story Mode: Relive defining moments of Formula racing history through era-based championships.
  • Customisation & Competition: Create custom races and championships, chase global leaderboard glory in Time Attack, and personalise your experience with modding support for liveries, helmets, and sponsors.

A Labour of Love from 3DClouds

Developer 3DClouds, despite its background in licensed games, emphasises that Formula Legends is a true passion project. “Race fast and have fun is a mantra that has driven this game’s development from day 1,” said Francesco Bruschi, CEO of 3DClouds. “We have some of the biggest motorsport fans in the world in our office which is only a stone’s throw away from Monza, so all of us being able to put our unbridled passion and expertise into this game has been an absolute joy. We really hope fans will dig Formula Legends and that we can help kickstart an arcade racing renaissance once more.

Key Features Announced

  • Over-the-Spoiler Arcade Racing: Accessible handling inspired by classics.
  • Strategic Depth: Manage tyres, fuel, damage, weather, and racecraft.
  • Historic Cars & Tracks: 16 car models (112 liveries), 14 circuits inspired by real locations.
  • Story Mode & Custom Championships.
  • 200+ Fictional Drivers with Perks.
  • Time Attack & Modding Support.
  • Multiplatform Release: Coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Switch, and PC later in 2025.

Wishlist Today

Formula Legends is shaping up to be an exciting prospect for racing fans looking for a blend of arcade fun and engaging strategy, all wrapped in a nostalgic package. It’s available to wishlist now on Steam and the Epic Games Store, with console store pages expected soon.

Keep an eye out for more news as development progresses towards its release later this year. But for now, we wholeheartedly recommend you hit up the trailer…

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
