Are the free Xbox Games With Gold titles for March 2019 any good?

-

games with gold march 2019

Let’s stop a second and realise that whilst it may still only feel early in the year, we’re almost a third of the way through. It’s crazy, but then again, if you look at all the epic titles of both triple-A and indie calibre that have been banging around on Xbox One in the last few weeks and months, you’d be forgiven for thinking we were looking at the great end of year rush. No matter how it feels though, we are just starting March and with February proving a vast disappointment for the Xbox Live Games With Gold program, can March pick up the slack and deliver us some free Xbox One and Xbox 360 titles that are memorable and full of quality?

Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion – 1st – 31st March 2019 – To be considered

adventure time pirates

It’s fair to say that the Adventure Time series as a whole is certainly a popular one.

With Cartoon Network broadcasting the show for years, there is certainly plenty of story for fans of the show to get stuck into, but if you want to get a little closer to that very universe that has pulled in so many viewers then there’s probably no better way than by playing Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion on Xbox One for free.

In this adventure players take on the roles of fan favourite characters Jake, Finn, BMO and Marceline, before trying to find out why The Land of Ooo is underwater. There are high seas to explore, hidden clues waiting to be uncovered and shady suspects that know more than they are letting on… not to mention an entire sea full of angry pirates to fight to save the waterlogged world.

Sound like your sort of thing? What are you waiting for? It’s available now!

Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 – 16th March – 15th April 2019 – Instant Download!

plants vs zombies garden warfare 2

I’ll be honest here, if you haven’t already downloaded this masterpiece of a game, are you even a real gamer?

Plants vs. Zombies has long been a hit with players, but with the Garden Warfare spinoff games taking the series to a more competitive and far more enjoyable third-person shooter type affair, it’s been difficult to argue a reason not to be playing this one at any given time. Content is aplenty, players are still aplenty – even after all these years – and now you’ll have the opportunity to jump in on the action for no price at all.

If you’ve not yet heard of this one though – and I’m talking strictly to all three of you – then you’re in for a treat. Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 brings players into the action with even more plants and zombies than the original, whilst this time delivering separate stories to be getting involved in, even more game modes than before and improvements to the already incredible gameplay found first time around.

With weekly and monthly challenges and constant support from the developers, there is still plenty of life in this one yet, and plenty of reason to be getting Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 on Xbox One added to your list ASAP!

Star Wars Republic Commando – 1st 15th March 2019 – Instant Download!

We may have the Star Wars Battlefront games if you want incredible visuals, and there may well be Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to look forward to later this year, but that doesn’t mean Star Wars Republic Commando should ever deserve to be overlooked.

Back in its day, this game was a true gem.

It brought an engaging story, and brilliant visuals, taking the focus away from all the typical heroes to instead shed light on the other factions of the Star Wars universe. Admittedly the visuals may not have held up quite so many years later, but it goes without saying this is easily one of the best games to have ever released on the original Xbox console.

Backwards Compatibility is also allowing it to be enjoyed by all once more on the Xbox One, so there is no reason not to jump in and experience the tale of Delta Squad – the elite group of clone commandos sent to battle during the Clone Wars.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance – 16th 31st March 2019 – To be considered

metal gear rising revengeance xbox 360

Having never played from the start, enjoying the Metal Gear series is one that’s been a bit difficult for me. That said, with Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 proving to be so enjoyable, and Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain, exceptional, there are very few titles in the series to look back on and think this may not be worth your time.

Sure, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance doesn’t quite bring the spotlight to the series legend Solid Snake, but it does bring yet another masterfully created and in-depth story and with some of the finest developers on the market, that’s usually a telltale sign that you’re looking at something spectacular.

In this adventure, players take on the role of Raiden who has been contracted for VIP protection, military training and a number of other duties by private military company Maverick Security Consulting, Inc. After being attacked by a cyborg organisation and requiring reconstruction, Raiden’s prime objectives change, and the tale of Vengeance begins. It’s not exactly an original storyline, but if you’re looking for drama, brilliant visuals and some eye-opening cutscenes, this is the place to be.

So, there we have it, some thoughts on each and every title you can expect to find available for free on Xbox One and Xbox 360 throughout March 2019 via the Xbox Games With Gold scheme.
