Slowly getting fed up with the plethora of brick-breaking copycats that have flooded the market? Fear no longer as the original classic is due to hit modern gamers in 2022. Yep, Arkanoid is back, with Eternal Battle.

Coming from the Microids team, with development rights handled by those at Pastagames (previously behind the likes of Rayman Legends, Pang Adventures and Pix the Cat), Arkanoid – Eternal Battle is planned for a 2022 release.

In Arkanoid – Eternal Battle players will get to discover or be reintroduced to the most iconic of block breakers, in a fully modernized version. Arkanoid – Eternal Battle features different solo and multiplayer modes; details of these will be unveiled at a later date. Classic elements from the franchise will be in place once it does arrive, as well as new effects, bonuses and features guaranteed to take veteran players by surprise.

You probably know of Arkanoid already, but in case you are unfamiliar it is an iconic arcade game, first developed by TAITO Corporation in 1986. It’s now 35 years after its release and the game has spawned numerous titles and plenty of copycats. In fact, there are already a huge number of different block breakers available on console including that of Xbox. It all tells the tale of when the mother ship ARKANOID comes under attack, the small spacecraft VAUS manages to escape but ends up warped into another dimension. Wandering in an interdimensional labyrinth, VAUS must destroy blocks called “spacewalls” in order to defeat “DOH”, creator of the maze.

Fabien Delpiano, Founder & Owner of Pastagames, recounts his personal experience with the Arkanoid franchise: “For me, it was in the French city of Nice, 54 boulevard Jean Médecin, in a dark arcade called “Automat”. It was full of neons and highly diverse people, from bikers to middle schoolers. The arcade machine was breathtaking, with its metal ball-bearing paddle, while I was just a regular fifteen-year-old trying to get on with adolescence. We immediately fell for each other, and our relationship lasted several years. We all have our own story with Arkanoid. It feels so good to come together again, after all these years.”

Masakazu Suzuki, Director and Executive Officer of Taito Corporation, stated: “We are very pleased that Microids, a company we trust, will be releasing a modern version of a popular title that Taito released 35 years ago. We’re confident that both old fans and new players will be very satisfied with the game.”

We’ll be sure to bring you all the Arkanoid – Eternal Battle details that you need in the weeks and months ahead. For now, let us know if you’ll be keeping an eye out for this one by dropping into the comments.
