Armatus – coming to Game Pass

The City of Lights has gone dark, and only a supernatural warrior stands between humanity and total oblivion.

Counterplay Games – best known for their work on Godfall – unveiled their ambitious new project: Armatus.

This third-person roguelite shooter is set to bring its unique blend of modern firepower and celestial magic to Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.

In a massive win for subscribers, it has also been confirmed that Armatus will be available day one with Xbox Game Pass across console, PC, and cloud.

A New Kind of Hell in Paris

Armatus drops players into a bleak, post-apocalyptic vision of Paris following a cataclysmic event known as The Vanishing. The iconic streets, once filled with romance and history, are now overrun by grotesque demonic hordes.

You take on the role of a mystical warrior, the last of an ancient order, summoned out of desperation to stand against the encroaching darkness. Your mission is to scour the city, battling through the ruins in search of the Sunless Gate – a lost gateway to heaven that might be the world’s last hope.

Hyperkinetic Combat and Roguelite Depth

The gameplay of Armatus promises to be a frantic, high-speed affair that demands precision and adaptability.

The combat system is built around a hyperkinetic philosophy. You aren’t just relying on one form of attack; success comes from seamlessly blending modern firearms with incredible celestial powers and brutal melee strikes. You might be mowing down demons with a shotgun one moment, only to devastatingly finish them off with a mystical scythe the next.

Fight, Die, Repeat

As a roguelite, death is not the end; it is a lesson. Every run into the demon-infested ruins will be different, challenging you to find your perfect build.

  • Dynamic Builds: Layer different weapons, abilities, and upgrades to create a unique combat style for each run.
  • Evolving Hellscapes: The “Scoured Path” you traverse will change constantly, with procedurally spawned rooms and enemy compositions ensuring no two battles feel the same.

A Partnership for the Future

This project marks a significant collaboration between Counterplay Games and the newly formed publisher, Fictions.

“With Armatus, we wanted our gameplay to be a blend of modern firearms and supernatural powers, plus a little melee for good measure,” said Ming Zhang, Studio Head at Counterplay Games. “By layering in dynamic build choices for each run, we’ve created the frenetic, hyperkinetic combat that really defines our gameplay.”

The gates of hell have opened in the heart of France, and a new cycle of war is about to begin. With its stylish visuals, fast-paced combat loop, and the backing of Xbox Game Pass, Armatus is shaping up to be one of the most exciting action titles to watch in the coming years.

Sharpen your scythes and load your weapons; the drop into Dark Paris awaits in 2026.
