If you’re after a ‘proper’ Assassin’s Creed experience, then you will be sorely disappointed. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be found playing Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia – especially now that it is free to download.
Yep, that’s right, but thanks to the awesome Xbox Games With Gold scheme for June 2018, you can now download Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia for absolutely nothing. Of course, you’ll need to be the holder of a valid Xbox Live Gold subscription, but should you already have that stashed away nicely in your bag, then a free download is now yours.
Available with the price tag removed until the end of June 2018, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia sees us whisked off to Russian lands in a 2.5D stabby platformer – a far cry from the huge open world experiences that most gamers associate with Assassin’s Creed. But whilst there was most definitely a bit of criticism for the way the AC Chronicles Trilogy pushed the whole franchise, if you’re looking at this game as a standalone platforming romp in which you get to stealthily kill a ton of bad guys, use various disguises and take in the wonders of Russia, then it ain’t bad at all.
On the other hand, if you’re coming in with your eyes closed, expecting a full on Assassin experience, you’re probably going about things the wrong way.
With the Russian freebie following on from the giveaway of AC Chronicles China (Sept 2016) and AC Chronicles India (Feb 2018) in previous months, it’s great to now see gamers given the opportunity to complete the set.
