Assetto Corsa Competizione brings realistic sim-racing to Xbox One and PS4

For years the go-to racers on console have been either the Forza Motorsport series on Xbox, or Gran Turismo on PlayStation. It’s fairly safe to say that if it’s not one of those titles, gamers have rarely been bothered. But sitting around in the background, ready to blast past the others given the opportunity has been that of Assetto Corsa. And now that Assetto Corsa Competizione is available on Xbox One and PS4, the old guard best get used to a new rookie hogging the limelight.

Available to purchase and download on Xbox One and PS4 right this minute – after a rather stellar launch on PC just a few weeks back – is 505 Games and Kunos Simulazioni’s latest simulation racer, Assetto Corsa Competizione.

Following on from the release of the original Assetto Corsa back in 2016, and then the release of the Ultimate Edition of that same game a couple of years later, Competizione promises to become the go-to sim racer for petrolheads on multiple formats, providing racing like no other.

Priced at £34.99, Assetto Corsa Competizione has been built on the back of a drive to deliver the most realistic sim racer yet, and with the promise of photorealistic weather, night races and motion capture animations, initial signs are certainly good. But then, all that would be worthless without some proper hardcore racing and Assetto Corsa Competizione hopes to compete in that area too.

With Kunos Simulazioni having utilised sophisticated mathematical models throughout, you should be safe in the knowledge that this is going to be an utterly deep racer that will cater for the most fanatical of audiences. With Sprint, Endurance and SPA 24 Hours races in place, both single and multiplayer modes, and levels of realism that are unmatched elsewhere, what more selling needs to be done? If you’re a race fan looking for a next massive hit, Assetto Corsa Competizione should be right up there on your radar.

If you’re up for the challenge and reckon the more arcadey style of races that have hit home in recent times – you know, like GRID, Forza Horizon 4 and the upcoming DIRT 5 – aren’t to your liking, then you should be making a line for the Xbox Store, the PlayStation Store, or even the Steam page right now. Our full review of Assetto Corsa Competizione on Xbox One is just around the corner too – keep an eye out on that if you need confirmation of its sim-like greatness before dropping a purchase.

And further to all that, the Assetto Corsa Competizione Season Pass is also available. This will set you back an additional £19.99, but it’ll let you go real deep with everything Competizione has to offer, providing access to two new DLC packs as and when they release. Current plans are for this to include the GTA Pack in the Fall of 2020, and then the British GT Pack in the Winter.

The main question though is will you #beACC ?

Game Description:

Assetto Corsa Competizione & the Intercontinental GT Pack DLC will allow you to feel the real atmosphere of the GT3 championship and the Intercontinental GT Challenge, competing against official drivers, teams, cars and circuits reproduced in-game with the highest level of accuracy ever achieved on console. Using sophisticated mathematical models, the engine carefully simulate tyre grip, aerodynamic impact, engine parameters, suspensions and electronics systems that determine vehicle balance, as well as the influence of mechanical damage on the car’s drivability. Sprint, Endurance and Spa 24 Hours races come to life with an incredible level of realism, in both single and multiplayer modes. Offering photorealistic weather conditions and graphics, night races, motion capture animations, it’s a new standard in terms of driving realism and immersion. There’s no better time than now to #beACC.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
