Atomic Heart II – electrifying!

Fresh off the news that the original game has surpassed 10 million players, developer Mundfish has just dropped a bombshell with the unveiling of Atomic Heart 2.

Set to the electrifying rhythm of Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now, an exhilarating new trailer has officially confirmed that Atomic Heart 2, the sequel to the breakout retrofuturistic shooter, is in active development for PC and consoles.

Don’t Stop Me Now: The Atomic Universe Expands

The high-energy trailer gave fans their first look at a fresh cast of characters, exotic new locations, and an expanded arsenal of weapons and abilities, confirming that the chaotic, beautiful world of the Atomic Universe is about to get much, much bigger.

The announcement comes at a high point for the studio. Following the immense success of the first game, Mundfish is ready to take players on another wild ride. The sequel is described as an action-adventure role-playing game with a strong focus on narrative, RPG elements, and player freedom, all set within a living world.

“Ever since the launch of the original Atomic Heart, we’ve been floored by the unwavering support and enthusiasm of our playerbase,” shared Robert Bagratuni, Founder and CEO of Mundfish, and Game Director of Atomic Heart 2. “It’s been hard sitting on this announcement for so long, but today, at Summer Game Fest, we’re incredibly happy to finally and officially announce that Atomic Heart 2 is coming, and it’s bigger and bolder than the original.”

From Local Chaos to Global Collapse

While the first game chronicled the spectacular collapse of a single, advanced facility in an alternate-history Soviet Union, the sequel is escalating the stakes dramatically. The utopian dream of humans living in harmony with their robots has shattered, and the events of the game are now expanding to a global scale.

Atomic Heart 2 picks up with a world teetering on the brink of total collapse. It will be up to the player to prevent this catastrophe, all while uncovering a truth that runs deeper and is far more sinister than anyone might realise.

What’s New in Atomic Heart 2?

The sequel promises to build upon the foundations of the original with a host of new and expanded features:

  • A Story on a Global Scale: The gripping plot continues with high stakes and mysteries, but now unfolds across a much larger world. Beloved characters will return alongside a new cast that will help showcase the global conflict from entirely new perspectives.
  • Expanded RPG Systems: The game will feature a deeper RPG system, immersing players in a living game world filled with a variety of activities and granting more player freedom.
  • Enhanced, Explosive Combat: The dynamic combat system has been enhanced, allowing players to use both hands simultaneously. This means you can seamlessly combine powerful glove abilities with a wide array of melee and ranged weapons for even more spectacular and strategic encounters.

Building on a Vibrant Foundation

The original Atomic Heart was a huge success, earning a 4/5 score from us. In our review, we praised its incredible world-building, stating, “Atomic Heart may not feel wholly original, but you can’t deny the craftsmanship that has gone into building an immersive, vibrant world… there’s enough creative flair here to justify treading the path once again.

With Atomic Heart 2, Mundfish appears to be taking that vibrant world and creative flair to the next level. By expanding the conflict to a global stage and deepening the RPG and combat systems, this sequel is poised to be the bigger, bolder, and more explosive experience the developers have promised.

No release window has been announced yet, but the mission to save a retro-future world from itself has officially begun.

Spend a little time with that trailer and the Steam page if you wish…
