After 20 years of playing every game I can get my hands on, I can now be found selling my soul for anything Resident Evil, Gears of War, or Gamerscore related... all of which will be mastered after a good cuppa!
Should you be after a game that can provide hours of fun or even some engaging experiences with friends, then Tetsumo Party isn’t likely to be your go-to game. It has a nice idea and if done better - dare I say maybe even with Kinect from back in the day - we could have been looking at a very interesting game. Sadly, that’s not the case
For a yearly release based on one of the biggest racing franchises, NASCAR Heat 4 doesn’t quite do it justice and even though those wanting a functional racer will find enough to be going on with, there aren't many reasons to pick this over any other racer on the market.
When it comes to survival horror, the first thing that many will want to talk about are the classic titles that kicked it all off; the Resident Evil’s and the Silent Hill’s of this world. Of course, since that point, survival horror has come a long way, evolving a lot, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t people out there who appreciate the roots of where it all began. With DAYMARE: 1998, that’s what the focus is centred around.
Gaming can be quite a tough hobby. After all, unless you’re lucky enough to have both an Xbox One and a PS4 sat beneath your TV, then at some point you’ve been forced to choose which games you’re going to want to play. There’s no denying that both consoles have their fair share of impressive exclusive titles, but with games constantly being split between the powers that be, it can put a real dampener on those looking to enjoy gaming for what it is. Whilst we could sit here all day and preach of how much better it would be to see all games available on all platforms, exclusive games are here to stay.
So, with that in mind, here are our top 10 PS4 exclusive titles we’d love to see spread their wings and arrive on the Xbox One Games Store. Whether it’ll ever happen though...
Resident Evil fans are a tough crowd to please; I should know, because I’m one of the biggest fans there is. But just because we can be a tough bunch, it doesn’t mean Capcom can’t do the right thing and give the fans that one thing they have been begging for over the last several years – to return the series to its roots as the home of horror.
December is finally here, and whilst most people will be switching their focus to the end of year festivities, there’s no denying that the gaming calendar isn’t showing the usual signs of slowing down, instead being a place that is certainly worth some valuable attention. So, with some of the years’ most anticipated releases still trickling in, what better way to try and find the mystical and elusive Christmas spirit this year, than in the not so wonderful winter wonderland of Willamette, Colorado as Frank West’s latest outing, Dead Rising 4, makes its way onto the Xbox One.
December is the time of year that most of us are left without a thought for games, with Christmas just over the horizon, and the onslaught of arrivals that came down the line in November still holding our wallets ransom. So, for those of us looking for something a little cheaper to bridge the gap to Christmas, what better place to look than in the worldwide weekly bargain bin that is the Xbox Live Deals With Gold sale. So, lets take a look at the best, and the worst of those games on offer in the latest sale running between 13th – 19th December.
2016 has been an odd year for games. Whilst it’s certainly been a busy in terms of big releases, not all have been the triple-A masterpieces we’ve seen arriving almost weekly recently on the Xbox Store. In fact, some arrivals just appear out of nowhere, before pulling you in with their quirky appearances and unusual gameplay. Headlander is one such title, and whilst developers Double Fine have always managed to intrigue me with the captivating gameplay seen in their many other titles, the intrigue this time came from the knowledge I would be in control of a flying head for my adventures.
So here we are again, another month coming to an end and what a month it’s been. November has seen the arrival of several cracking blockbuster titles finally making their way to our consoles. But with November finishing that can only mean one thing, the new Xbox Games With Gold will soon be upon us...and for those of you preparing to put down the controller in order to find your Christmas spirit, don’t be so hasty. The latest offering has been announced, and it looks like Christmas has come early as Microsoft look to end 2016 on possibly the highest note of the year so far with December's Games With Gold.
2016 has seen a long line of puzzle titles arriving on console, and whilst that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it certainly doesn’t mean they are all intellectual mind-benders you’ll want to be jumping into any time soon. So with the arrival of Nebulous on Xbox marking the latest addition to the already crowded puzzle genre, I stepped in for a bout of light brain teasing to see if it had what it takes to stand out as a promising puzzle solver, or if it would simply be another puzzling nuisance.
Whilst there may be only one FPS title that’s guaranteed a release year in year out, there is certainly no arguing that when the latest Call of Duty and Battlefield titles arrive in the same year, there is always some serious competition to ensue, as both Activision and EA go all out to grab as much of the hugely devoted FPS fan base as possible. Though there will always be fanboys that argue in favour of their favourite series, in truth the battle has always been close.
So with both series' releases on the market and updates being pumped out, it’s time to see who’s shooting to the top this year.
The Xbox Games with Gold scheme has been a big hit since its arrival way back in the days of Xbox 360. Since its introduction, subscribers have been gifted some incredible titles to add to their library. Sometimes though, games can arrive that aren’t too well received by fans, leaving a sour taste in the mouth of paying customers. So, with the latest batch of freebies now available, I sat down for some dungeon delving madness to see if Super Dungeon Bros can appease the masses with its daring release via Games With Gold.
I’m a big fan of arcade games. I don’t mean those that introduce an arcade feel to it such as the likes of Forza – although I am a big fan of that too. Or even those games that introduce an arcade mode for their fans, such as the one recently added to Doom. No, the games I mean are those that originally put gaming on the map; the ones like Pac-man, Galaga, Space Invaders and Centipede.
Every now and again, a game comes along that reminds you just why arcade games are held in such high regard, so with Xenoraid’s arrival on the Xbox One providing a new arcade title for the masses to enjoy, I jumped in to see if my craving for a great arcade title could be satisfied.
With the trend seemingly set and Rogue-like games now having their own specific, and newly found genre - right next to zombies - it seems we should have been expecting the large number of Rogue-like titles that have been appearing in recent months. However, with such many different titles now available to choose from, both good and bad, creating that next title that has people talking by the office water cooler has become an increasingly difficult challenge. But if anyone is up for the job of creating a loveable Rogue-like. then I would fully expect it to be the guys over at Black Forest Games.
For those unaware of what Clustertruck is, consider this as hybrid mashup of the popular childhood game ‘the floor is lava’, and that crazy TV programme Ice Road Truckers - if those truckers were REALLY drunk. It also comes with an art style and design almost identical to that of indie gem, SUPERHOT.
With so many genres on offer, there is always going to be some that are more difficult to get the hang of than others. Some games like the Dark Souls series are designed to have a brutal challenge at the core of everything, whilst other games can cause unintentional suffering. As for Mordheim: City of the Damned, which is the latest title I’ve found myself frustrated with, it seems to be unintentional. But is it worth it in the end, or is this a title for hardcore fans of the genre only?
Back in 2009, Rocksteady gave a special treat to gamers looking for a great blockbuster title in the action/adventure genre. For fans of Batman however, they delivered much more, a gaming masterpiece in the form of Batman: Arkham Asylum. Then after creating the most critically acclaimed superhero game ever released, they took it a step further with the even more successful sequel, Batman: Arkham City, in 2011. But now after months of silence and delays, the release of Batman: Return to Arkham is finally upon us, bringing with it the chance to don the mask of the caped crusader once more.
Outlaws + Handful of Missions: Remaster is a win for Nightdive. The developers' ever growing reputation for preserving and accentuating classic games is put on full display here. The remaster is faithful, one that keeps the spirit of the original game alive whilst smoothing some of the edges that time has inflicted upon it.
Total Chaos is a disorientating tale of mystery, horror and survival which despite some frustrating niggles, details a desperate struggle against insanity itself.
