Ready for something a little unique? Badland Publishing have today confirmed they’ll be bringing Devilish Games’ £D adventure puzzling platformer to consoles in 2021.

Due to arrive on Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch in the first quarter of 2021, Onirike is a puzzle platformer that takes place in an intricate open world; one that has been designed with a non-linear narrative and presented with a peculiar audio-visual aesthetic.

It is due to an agreement between Badland Publishing (also holding Adome) and Devilish Games which will see the the production and launch of Onirike on console, alongside a launch on Steam for good measure.

In Onirike you will get the chance to play as Prieto, a charming character who wakes up again and again in the same place. You see, every time the sun rises, his memories are erased, letting him work through the day until nightall, at which point everything resets and he returns to the same starting point. But it is here where one of the peculiar beings that inhabit this world that would delight Tim Burton reveals to him the key to escape from there: he must collect enough gypsophila to explore the orb of nightmares while avoiding the devourers of souls.

This gypsophila appears on the stages like the breadcrumbs from a Hansel and Gretel tale, letting us pick them up as we traverse the stages ahead. Without it, Prieto will become invisible until he disappears.

But there are areas in Onirike where there are no gypsophila plants, and it will be up to you to plant them with the seeds collected in special levels, as during the day, the hero can glide through the air. This adds an element of strategy, to which is added the impossibility of being detected by the devourers of souls when we are invisible, which makes Onirike an adventure as original as it is challenging.

Visually inspired by the likes of Nightmare Before Christmas and Beetlejuice, Onirike looks great too, giving the impression that everything has been created from clay models.

Main features of Onirike on Xbox One, PS4 and Switch include:

  • Explore Onirike’s intricate open world.
  • Discover its captivating non-linear story.
  • Be amazed by its peculiar audio-visual style.
  • Help Prieto gain new abilities.
  • Strategically grow gypsophila flowers.
  • Avoid the devourers of souls by becoming invisible.

If you’re looking forward to taking in Onirike then Q1 2021 will see launch on Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. We’ll be sure to remind you when that happens but for now the trailer below should well be taken in.

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
