Buckle up and prepare for an action-RPG in which you’ll tackle alien beasts, craft intimidating weapons and ultimately take on a maniacal big bad. That’s your fate in Crashlands, which is out right now on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
Crashlands is a narrative-driven action-RPG in which a galactic trucker, Flux Dabes, becomes stranded on an unfamiliar planet during a seemingly routine shipment job. The journey derailment is apparently caused by a menacing alien named Hewgodooko, who’s hell-bent on world domination. Somehow, while in the role of Flux Dabes, you’re now embroiled within a devious plot. If you’re to retrieve the lost shipment and overcome Hewgodooko then it’s going to require every ounce of wit and crafting abilities you possess.
Learning recipes from the locals and making a few friends will go a long way to achieving success on the planet Woanope. Crafting items and such only gets you so far however, with skill-based combat a vital aspect too. Figure out the attack patterns of the enemies you encounter, before deciding whether to set them on fire, stun them or even slow-down time through the use of gadgets. Should you need a trusty side-kick, the tameable creatures will answer the call and aid you in battle, while a second player can join the action to lend a hand locally as a robot known as Juicebox.
There’s so much going on in Crashlands though, with a huge world spanning three continents to explore, that it’s probably best to have a read of our full review for further insight into what it offers – and whether it’s worth your time. Only then should you make your mind up regarding a purchase, in which case you may need to visit the Xbox Store. A one-way ticket to Woanope costs £12.49 normally, but if you hurry it’s on sale for a few days at £9.99!
