A Journey Through A Broken Japan
The year is 4026, and the world has changed beyond recognition.
Japan has become a land where nature has reclaimed vast stretches of civilisation, while a deadly blight continues to consume everything in its path. Standing against it are Emma, an outcast shunned because of her mysterious affliction, and Koo, a faithful dog whose own fate is closely tied to hers.
Their mission is to hunt down the powerful beasts that rule this fractured world, claiming their abilities in the hope of one day confronting the mysterious Beast of Reincarnation itself.
It’s an adventure that promises brutal battles, quiet moments of reflection and, above all, a relationship between two companions that grows stronger with every challenge they overcome.
Emma And Koo Fight As One
While Beast of Reincarnation is very much an action RPG, it builds much of its combat around the partnership between its two central characters.
Emma wields a sword in fast, fluid encounters, while players can direct Koo to unleash special techniques during battle. Rather than simply acting as a companion, Koo becomes an essential part of every fight, opening up opportunities for different tactics and combat styles.
Away from battle, players can shape Emma’s abilities through skill trees, spirit stones and equipment, choosing whether to specialise in stealth, ranged attacks or an all-out aggressive approach.
A New Chapter For Game Freak
Although Game Freak’s name is instantly recognisable for PokĂ©mon, Beast of Reincarnation represents one of the studio’s most ambitious projects outside its best-known work.
We’ve already highlighted the game in our Best New Xbox and Game Pass Games for August 2026 feature, while also following its development ever since its original reveal back in 2025. With today’s launch, Xbox players can finally discover what the studio has been building over the past few years.
Deluxe Edition Extras
Players looking for a few additional bonuses can opt for the Digital Deluxe Edition, priced at ÂŁ57.99.
Alongside the base game, it includes:
- Black and Brown Shiba skins for Koo
- Emma’s “Oni’s Hat”
- The “Big Dipper” sword
- 100,000 Amber in-game currency
- A selection of vegetable seedlings
Ready For The Hunt?
Beautiful, mysterious and more than a little bleak, Beast of Reincarnation looks to combine emotional storytelling with stylish action in one of the more intriguing RPG launches of the year.
It’s available now on Xbox Series X|S, PC, Play Anywhere and PlayStation 5, priced at ÂŁ49.99 for the Standard Edition, or as a Day One Game Pass release for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers. Our review of Beast of Reincarnation is on the way.
