2026's Best Games

Imagine seeing the world from an entirely different perspective, through the eyes of a tiny bug no less. Well that’s the viewpoint you’ll adopt in Metamorphosis, the latest puzzle platformer on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Inspired by ‘The Metamorphosis (Die Verwandlung)’, a short story from novelist Franz Kafka, Metamorphosis is a reimagining of that classic narrative. Developers Ovid Works hope to have provided an existential adventure that mysteriously transforms you into a tiny bug and sends you off on a quest to save a dear friend, Joseph – who’s been arrested for some reason. Prepare to meet a fair few eccentric characters in this hand-painted world, as you journey through surrealist landscapes towards The Tower.

Set in a 1920s version of Prague, you will have to use your tiny body and sticky limbs to  leap, climb, and chart a path through a wide variety of settings full of obstacles to overcome. They include the likes of the human world, an underground inhabited by insects, and a host of surreal environments, all experienced from the perception of a small bug – kind of similar to Grounded in a perspective sense, but more bizarre and twisted.

Should the unusual puzzle platforming of Metamorphosis entice you in to uncover the truth behind the strange goings on, then just leap over to the Xbox Store and become immersed for £20.99 – or £18.89 for the first week. It’s also available on the respective digital stores for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Get in touch and let us know if you’ve had a taste of the bug life already or are planning to soon.

Game Description:

You wake up one morning to find that you are rather inconveniently transforming into a tiny bug, while your friend Joseph is being arrested for reasons unknown. To save him and to find the answers you seek, you must embark on a journey through a world which, like yourself, has become twisted and unfamiliar. What once seemed like mundane dwellings have become an expansive obstacle course, and now you’ll have to chart your path through the dingy nooks and crannies that exist within the cracks of civilization. Use your wits to unravel the truth, and regain the life you once knew. A bug’s perspective in first person – experience the world in a whole new way Challenging environmental puzzles – parkour, wall climb, search for clues, and overcome obstacles Unique movement mechanics – make full use of your tiny body and sticky limbs A story inspired by Kafka’s imagination – meet eccentric characters in a hand-painted world, as you journey through surrealist landscapes towards The Tower
