A Familiar Buzz: Returning to the Flower Patch

Another day, another Afil Games Gamerscore provider.

This time around we cast our beady eyes over the Royal Garden tagged version of Bee Flowers; a game that sits as something of a sequel to the original Bee Flowers. If you have played that game, or other tile puzzles from Afil Games like Pirate Trails, then you’ll know exactly what you are in for here.

In fact, you could probably have taken Royal Garden as a DLC pack for Bee Flowers, but that would have defeated the Gamerscore objective that many hunger for.

This Royal Garden fails to test

Guiding Queens and Pollinating Flowers

In Bee Flowers: Royal Garden you’ll find yourself tasked with twisting and swapping hexagonal tiles, all in order to create pathways for your Queen bees. Guiding them safely along these routes is the name of the game, picking up working bees and followers in the process, dropping them off as they go to pollinate flowers. The end goal? To end up safely at your hive.

Familiarity Blooms

If that sounds familiar, then well, it is, because it’s very close to what we were doing only a few short weeks back in Bee Flowers. There is little to twist the standard gameplay mechanics of that original game now that the Royal Garden moniker has been added, but whether that is a good or a bad thing will be dictated by your own personal taste. We’ve lapped up the extra thirty levels found in this kingdom, completing their pathways and gathering up all the Gamerscore on offer in less than an hour. As always with these games, if that is where your gaming interest lay, then fill your Gamerscore coffers with a trip to this Royal Garden.

You should know what to expect…

Simple Swaps and Predictable Paths

On the flip, it does mean that it is still a game series that lacks, both in terms of mental testing and gameplay variety. At its most basic, and rarely ever moving away from that, you’ll discover that the stages in Royal Garden are simple to complete, working your way from the start, to the end – or vice versa – with utter ease.

Only really will you have to stop and think about positioning of certain tiles once or twice through the levels that are on offer; and even then, a little trial and error will soon ensure completion. With straight lanes, curved paths, and the occasional cross piece present, there’s nothing here that will raise the difficulty. And if you’re really stuck on something that Royal Garden brings to the table, there’s always the opportunity to whack the ‘Hint’ button and be treated to a glowing pathway. We’d be extremely surprised if you ever need to rely on that though.

Functional Controls, Forgettable Flair

Controls are fine too, and it’s fairly easy to shift your way through the hexagonal offerings on the table, picking up, swapping out, rotating tiles. With resets available should you need them, and little in terms of worry or stress ever popping up, Bee Flowers: Royal Garden is a humble affair that is best played as you wind down for an evening. With next-to-no replayability, don’t expect to be going back to this one after the night is out.

It’s a game that is just about clear enough visually too. Rarely, if ever, have we played an Afil Games game and considered that it could ever be seen as anything near a visual treat, but there’s no mistaking what you need to do in Royal Garden, with a pixelated graphical style that lets you just get on with things. We’d guess you’ll want to run completion of these puzzles with your own backing tunes though.

And of course, whilst we can’t knock it for complexity, that does mean Bee Flowers: Royal Garden runs absolutely fine on Xbox Series X|S. It should also mean it is capable of suiting the more casual gamer too; those looking for the most easy of gaming experiences.

More of the same – you might enjoy that!

Another Quick Buzz for Gamerscore Hunters

With achievements and Gamerscore on tap, there’s nothing to steer Bee Flowers: Royal Garden away from being anything but the usual Afil Games offering. Whether you see that as a good or bad thing will be decided by your own personal gaming choices.

If you want easy, over-in-an-hour gaming, head to this buzzy kingdom immediately. But don’t arrive at the gates of Bee Flowers: Royal Garden expecting anything near a test of your puzzling mind.

It really is another day, and another Afil Games Gamerscore provider. At least it’s super cheap to buy…
