Syberia Remastered – coming in late 2025

The enchanting world of automations, mammoths, and unforgettable characters is set to make a triumphant return as Syberia is Remastered and also confirmed for VR!

Microids has announced the development of a complete remaster of the iconic Syberia, Benoît Sokal’s cult adventure game that first captivated players in 2002. This modernised edition is slated for release in late 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

But that’s not all the Sokal-inspired magic on the horizon. As part of this ambitious revival, Microids also announced Syberia VR, an exclusive virtual reality version of the game specially designed for Meta Quest 3, set to launch simultaneously.

This exciting news follows the internationally acclaimed remake of another Sokal classic, Amerzone – The Explorer’s Legacy.

We were incredibly impressed with that effort, awarding it a 4.5/5 score and noting: “Amerzone – The Explorer’s Legacy surprises, both with how good the actual adventure is and just how much effort has clearly gone into this remake… This new version doesn’t suffer those problems, offering different difficulty settings to choose from, as well as helpful hints and clues becoming available.

Microids is clearly committed to rebirthing Benoît Sokal’s unique universe of visual poetry and spellbinding storytelling.

A Timeless Adventure, Enhanced for a New Generation

Developed in close collaboration by Virtuallyz Gaming and Microids Studio Paris, Syberia Remastered aims to give players, both new and old, the chance to experience the unforgettable story of Kate Walker.

As the New York lawyer is thrown into an unexpected journey across Europe following the mysterious Hans Voralberg, she encounters memorable characters in beautifully melancholy and enigmatic settings.

This remaster intends to restore all the emotional and artistic power of the original work while meeting today’s demanding technical standards. Players can expect a complete graphical overhaul, exploiting the capabilities of modern devices to enhance environments, characters, and animations, breathing new life into Sokal’s dreamlike vision.

A New Dimension of Immersion: Syberia VR

For those seeking an even deeper connection to Kate Walker’s world, Syberia VR promises an unprecedented experience on Meta Quest 3.

Conceived from the beginning as an experience in its own right, this version will offer a unique narrative approach, allowing players to fully immerse themselves in Syberia’s iconic environments as never before, all while remaining faithful to the spirit of the original work.

Microids on Preserving Benoît Sokal’s Legacy

Elliot Grassiano, founder of Microids, shared his passion for the project: “Syberia is much more than a game – it’s an initiatory journey, an unforgettable sensory and emotional experience. With this remaster, we want a new generation to rediscover this adventure, while offering historical fans a sublimated version respectful of Benoît Sokal’s legacy.

The Syberia series has continued to enchant players, with the more recent installment, Syberia: The World Before, also earning a strong 4/5 score from us. We found it to be “a particularly good game if you like puzzles or point-and-click adventures, whilst the story is well written and devised with some great locations and characters to meet along the way… you’ll discover a pleasant journey with a likeable hero.

The Journey to Syberia Begins Anew in Late 2025

The announcement of Syberia Remastered and Syberia VR feels fantastic news for adventure game fans and admirers of Benoît Sokal’s incredible artistry. With a late 2025 release window for both titles, there’s plenty of time for anticipation to build.

Keep an eye out for more details in the coming months.

We don’t have an Xbox Store page yet, but feel free to check out the storefronts for PC (Steam) and PlayStation.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
