Bergwerk A Mining Sim – coming to Xbox, PlayStation, PC

If you’ve ever fancied digging deeper than the average simulation game allows, Bergwerk – A Mining Sim is preparing to make that dream a reality.

Newly revealed by Aerosoft and Hindsight Studios, this mining simulator is heading to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, inviting players to build a thriving coal empire from the surface all the way down into procedurally generated mines.

With heavy machinery, collapsing tunnels and a constantly shifting economy all standing between you and success, it looks like you’ll need more than a sturdy pickaxe to strike coal.

Start Small, Then Dig Your Way To The Top

Set in the fictional German mining region of Grubental, Bergwerk – A Mining Sim begins with a modest plot of land, a pickaxe and plenty of ambition. From there, players will design and expand their own colliery from the ground up, deciding where to place storage yards, processing facilities, headframes and other industrial buildings before taking operations beneath the surface.

What starts as a small local business can gradually evolve into a sprawling mining company, with every expansion shaped by your own decisions rather than a predefined path.

It is once you head underground though, where the real work begins. Each mine is procedurally generated, featuring changing tunnel layouts, varying coal qualities and fresh geological challenges every time you descend. Rather than following fixed routes, players are free to carve out galleries, shafts and transport networks however they see fit.

Safety is just as important as productivity. Tunnel supports must be placed carefully to prevent collapses, while power supplies, ventilation, water systems, gas levels and dust management all require constant attention if you want your workforce – and your profits – to survive another day.

From Pickaxes To Powerful Machinery

Mining technology evolves alongside your business.

Early operations rely on manual tools and explosives, but as profits grow you’ll unlock more than 15 drivable vehicles and machines, including mine trains, wheel loaders, shuttle vehicles, shaft hoists and even a licensed MAN TGX truck for above-ground logistics.

Transporting coal becomes a logistical puzzle in its own right, with conveyor belts, rail systems, trucks and automated infrastructure all playing a part in keeping production flowing efficiently.

But extracting coal is only half the challenge. A fluctuating market means prices rise and fall over time, encouraging players to decide when to sell their stock, when to invest in new equipment and when to take out loans to fund further expansion.

Combined with dynamic weather, day-night cycles and the sandbox structure of Grubental, every mining operation should develop differently, rewarding careful planning just as much as hard graft.

Another Deep Dive Into Simulation

Aerosoft continues to expand its impressive catalogue of simulation titles, like those of The Bus, and Bergwerk – A Mining Sim looks set to be one of its most ambitious management experiences yet. Blending business management, realistic mining systems, heavy machinery and free-form underground construction, this is one simulation that’s aiming to dig far deeper than simply moving rocks from one place to another.

Bergwerk – A Mining Sim is currently in development for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, with a release date still to be confirmed. For now, you can get eyes on the trailer below.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
