The shadows of feudal Japan deepen today as a new threat emerges on a mysterious, isolated island in Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Claws of Awaji.

Ubisoft has launched Claws of Awaji, the first major expansion for the critically acclaimed Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This substantial new chapter invites players to once again embody Naoe and Yasuke as they confront a ruthless new faction in a brand-new region.

Available now on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Amazon Luna, this expansion promises over 10 hours of new content, packed with deadly ambushes, stunning landscapes, and powerful new gear to master.

Journey to the Mysterious Island of Awaji

Priced at ÂŁ20.99 for standalone purchase, the Claws of Awaji expansion is set after the events of the main game and requires players to have completed the core story. The adventure begins when Naoe travels to the mysterious island of Awaji, located across the bay of Osaka, on the trail of a lost artifact and a secretive shinobi.

Alongside Yasuke, Naoe will quickly discover that they are far from welcome. The island is under threat from the dangerous Sanzoku Ippa, a ruthless new faction whose deadly ambushes and clever traps make every step a potential risk.

Players will explore vibrant cities and stunning maritime landscapes, all while navigating the deadly political and physical threats posed by this new clan.

New Skills, Weapons, and Enemies

To face the island’s dangers, both Naoe and Yasuke will gain access to new skills, weapon abilities, powerful armour, and fresh gear, all of which can be carried back into the main game to expand your arsenal. You’ll need these upgrades to take on Awaji’s deadliest foes, which include new enemy types and uniquely challenging bosses.

In exciting news for all Assassin’s Creed Shadows players, a brand-new weapon for Naoe, the Bo Staff, is being added to the game via a free quest. Agile and fast, the Bo Staff is built for fluid combos and creative attacks, capable of striking multiple enemies in quick succession.

While everyone can unlock the base weapon, players who own the Claws of Awaji expansion will have access to powerful Legendary Bo staves with unique engravings, found only on the new island.

How to Access Claws of Awaji

There are a couple of ways to begin your new adventure:

This new content drop follows months of post-launch support from developer Ubisoft Bordeaux, which has seen the addition of features like New Game+, a Nightmare difficulty mode, and quality-of-life improvements such as the ability to fast-forward time.

A Winning Formula, Expanded

Claws of Awaji builds upon the incredible foundation that made the base game a standout success. In our glowing 5/5 review of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, we stated:

If you’re a fan of Assassin’s Creed, hooked from the very first game, you’ll find a lot of love for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. It feels very familiar, but still manages to do a great job of adding extra relish in terms of combat, visuals, and storytelling. There’s no doubt that the double protagonist pivot, with different playstyles, is a winning formula.

This new expansion offers a significant new chapter for that winning formula, providing more of the captivating story and challenging combat that fans adored. It’s a perfect reason to step back into the roles of the shinobi and the samurai.

The journey for Naoe and Yasuke is far from over. A mysterious island awaits, its secrets guarded by a deadly new foe. It’s time to uncover the truth behind the Claws of Awaji.
