Black Jacket on Game Pass has found a clever way to stand out from the crowd – by dragging blackjack into the underworld and turning it into a strategic battle for survival.
Launching today on Xbox Series X|S, PC, Play Anywhere, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, Black Jacket also arrives Day One on Xbox Game Pass for Ultimate and PC subscribers, giving card game fans something very different to shuffle into this month.
Originally announced back in 2025, the latest from Mi’pu’mi Games GmbH and Skystone Games mixes blackjack, deckbuilding, roguelite progression and narrative mystery into one stylish package.

Blackjack, But Make It Hellish
The setup behind Black Jacket is simple enough to understand, even if the gameplay quickly spirals into something much deeper.
You awaken trapped in the underworld, surrounded by restless souls all trying to earn enough coins to escape. Standing between you and freedom is the Ferryman, and naturally, he doesn’t work for free. That means sitting down at supernatural blackjack tables and gambling against the damned.
But this is far from a standard card game. Black Jacket twists and bends blackjack rules constantly, allowing players to manipulate decks, alter card values, swap hands, force opponents into mistakes and build wildly overpowered combinations through artifacts, curses and upgraded cards.
The result looks far closer to a strategic roguelite deckbuilder than a casino simulator.
Learning The Rules – Then Breaking Them
One of the more interesting ideas here revolves around your opponents.
You never properly see them. Instead, Black Jacket presents enemies only through their hands, playstyles and behaviours. Each rival has their own curse, tactics and story slowly revealed over repeated encounters.
That feeds into the game’s darker narrative focus, with each run uncovering more about both the lost souls trapped in the afterlife and your own mysterious situation.
And according to the team behind it, that blend of strategy and storytelling is exactly the point.
“Black Jacket is about more than just luck,” says Mi’pu’mi Games. “It’s about learning to control the game flow, outsmart your rivals, and uncover their stories. We wanted to create a deckbuilder that feels both familiar and completely new, where modified blackjack becomes the foundation for endless creative strategies – all wrapped in a dark, narrative-driven world that respects the player’s intelligence and curiosity.“
Another Big Day One For Game Pass
Game Pass has quietly become a great home for experimental indie strategy titles, and Black Jacket feels like another strong fit for the service.
The blackjack hook immediately gives it something distinctive, but the real appeal may come from discovering increasingly ridiculous deck combinations and finding new ways to completely break the rules of the table. If nothing else, gambling your way out of hell certainly makes for a decent elevator pitch.
Black Jacket is available today on Xbox Series X|S (through the Xbox Store), PC (Steam), PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. There is Day One access through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass too.
