Build, race, explode with Can’t Drive This on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC

The one key component to any racing game is the ability to race against friends, showing them your skills and proving to the world that you are at the top of your game. In Can’t Drive This though, you’ll be totally reliant on your mates – for as you drive, they build the track ahead of you. And yep, there will be no messing around, for going slow and taking your time means one thing – you’ll explode.

Coming out of a game jam back in 2016, Can’t Drive This from Pixel Maniacs has emerged into a rather delightful looking affair. Available right now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Steam – where it’s been sat in Early Access – this is one competitive cooperative racer like no other.

Can’t Drive This comes in with a nifty little £16.74 price tag in tow (with a discount on that for the first couple of weeks), and for that money you’ll find access to something entirely different to anything else on the scene. Your task is to drive a little monster truck, but it’ll be up to your friend alongside you to actually build the track you are navigating. Go to fast and you’ll fly off an un-built road, too slow and, well, boom.

Sold as a racing game (well, we guess it technically is but it’s certainly no DIRT 5), Can’t Drive This will work best either via 2-player online or up-to 4-player local multiplayer. There is a single player component too though, as is there a full level editor and plenty of customisation too. How does that all work? Well, our full review of Can’t Drive This on Xbox Series X|S will be coming your way very soon, and it is that which will cover the finer details.

Keep an eye out for our review thoughts but in the meantime if you’re after a download of Can’t Drive This, and reckon you can drive this, then the usual digital stores will sort you out for a download. It’s on the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, the PlayStation Store for PS4 and PS5, the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch players and over on Steam if you prefer to the PC.

Let us know what you think of this quirky little racer by posting in the comments.

Game Description:

Can’t Drive This is a competitive co-op (it’s a thing) multiplayer party racing game. Drive your monster truck WHILE your friend builds the road in front of you! Oh, and don’t go too slow, OR YOU’LL EXPLODE! Like in that Sandra Bullock movie, in which she kinda does the same thing, but on a bus. Also, she doesn’t explode (Spoiler alert). Also, Keanu Reeves was in the movie.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
