Don’t wake the Wobbledogs

Do you like science? Do you like dogs (or dog games like PHOGS)? Then you’ll love Wobbledogs Console Edition.

Wobbledogs Console Edition is a 3D pet simulation in which you’ll get to raise your own pack of loveable mutts. Watch them interact with each other, pet them, keep them fed and design their environment – if you are feeling friendly. If not, you can chuck them around, fling them out of cannons and feed the corpses of the deceased dogs to their children (yes – really).

However, these aren’t the strangest aspects of Wobbledogs Console Edition – these are not your average dogs. Your pack will start off relatively normal, but as they age they enter a pupal state and physically mutate, giving them a whole range of strange physical characteristics and personality traits that influence how the dog moves and interacts with other dogs and objects.

These traits come about by a simulated genetics system, making the mutations random, but you can influence them depending on what food they eat. In a weird imitation of probiotic supplements, the foods fill their guts with different flora, which influence the dogs’ mutations, allowing you to mould them into the canine you want.

You can also set up your own breeding programs by choosing prospective parents based on their mutations, breeding them together and discovering what mess of a puppy is produced.

The video trailer gives you more of an idea of the strange and unique world of Wobbledogs Console Edition.

Developed by Animal Uprising and Auroch Digital and published by Secret Mode, and already a huge hit on Steam and Nintendo Switch, Wobbledogs Console Edition is now available to play on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as Xbox Series X|S. These new editions have been optimised for their respective consoles, with a revamped UI to make digital dog raising better with a controller.

Wobbledogs Console Edition is available to buy and download from the Xbox Store for ÂŁ15.99. Keep an eye out for our review – we’ll let you know if the Wobbledogs can find a space in our Greatest Dogs in Gaming article.

Game Description:

Wobbledogs is a 3D pet simulation where you raise your own personal hive of rapidly mutating dogs, physically simulated all the way down to their guts! It’s a casual and chill sandbox experience for players of all ages who want to care for their very own virtual pets in a surprising, unique, and stress-free environment. The dogs start out relatively normal, but mutate and behave in surprising ways as the game progresses and their evolutionary lines advance. Dogs have highly variable bodies controlled by a simulated genetics system. As they age, they periodically enter a pupal state and physically mutate. The foods they eat fill their guts with different flora. These flora influence the dogs’ mutations, letting you craft and mold them to fit your own idea of canine (im)perfection! Dogs need a place to call home, and it’s up to you to create an appealing habitat to help them thrive. As you play, you’ll gain access to more and more objects and decorations. String together rooms and decorate them however you’d like. Give your dogs a relaxing place to sleep, set up an maze, or even cultivate a garden. There are no built-in goals, so you can prioritize whatever you like the most! The dogs in this game are physically simulated, which adds a layer of uniqueness to almost every action they take. Two dogs with separate body structures will experience the world in different ways. They also have unique personality traits that influence the types of behaviors they tend to run and govern how they interact with other dogs and objects. Wobbledogs is meant to be enjoyable simply to passively observe, but it’s also rewarding to interact with the dogs directly, whether that’s petting them to relieve some stress, tossing a pup around to watch it tumble through the pen, or helping your canine companion get free after it wriggled itself into a particularly tight space. These dogs try their best, but sometimes they need a bit of extra help!
