Edit – 16th Aug 2022 – LEGO Bricktales will be launching on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC in Q4 2022.
As the LEGO videogames continue to expand on their bread-and-butter platformers – save for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga – their new ideas excite us greatly. Following on from the beautiful LEGO Builder’s Journey is the newly announced LEGO Bricktales, coming in 2022.
Coming from the developers at Clockstone – those behind the Bridge Constructor series – is a LEGO game in a similar vein. Presented in beautiful dioramas, you must help the LEGO minifigure through these environments by building items out of LEGO. The trailer below will help give you some understanding:
“After more than two years, it feels incredible to finally announce what we have been working on behind closed doors. We’re honored to have this opportunity to collaborate with the largest toy brand worldwide,” said Dieter Schoeller, Vice-President of Publishing at Thunderful. “With LEGO Bricktales, we’ve made it our mission to tap into what it is that makes LEGO play so special. Our intuitive brick-by-brick building mechanic allows players to engage with LEGO bricks in a video game the same way the toys have been inspiring people’s imagination and creativity for decades.”
“Everyone loves LEGO Bricks, and we are no exception, so we couldn’t be happier to get the chance to work on a LEGO videogame,” said Tri Do Dinh, Game Designer at Clockstone. “We hope you enjoy this first look at LEGO Bricktales and will have a great time diving into the game’s story, sandbox mode, unlockable abilities and much more!”
“The game encourages players to use their imagination and creativity to unlock new skills that can help them progress to new levels. This new digital experience is rooted in the creative, playful joy that comes from building and problem-solving using LEGO bricks” said Kate Bryant, Head of LEGO Games Portfolio, the LEGO Group.
Some of the dioramas will take you to jungles, deserts, castles and tropical islands. Each one of them will have their own unique problems for you to solve, and the rewards for each one will unlock new skills and secrets.
We do not have a confirmed date or console release for LEGO Bricktales yet, but we will be sure to bring it to you when we do. LEGO Bricktales looks to be a healthy mixture of environmental storytelling from LEGO Builder’s Journey on the Xbox Store and the humour of the staple LEGO series. And we are more than alright with that.
