Infection Free Zone – now on Xbox

When the world ends, where would you make your last stand? For Infection Free Zone, the answer could be almost anywhere. Your hometown. A famous city. Somewhere you’ve visited. Somewhere you’ve always wanted to explore.

Now available on Xbox Series X|S, this post-apocalyptic strategy game gives players the chance to build a survivor settlement using real-world locations as the foundation.

But finding somewhere familiar is only the beginning. The infected are fast, aggressive and everywhere, resources are scarce, and when night falls, your carefully constructed safe haven could quickly become the target of a devastating horde.

Start Your Apocalypse Wherever You Want

One of Infection Free Zone’s most interesting ideas is the freedom to choose where the action takes place.

Using real-world map data, players can enter the name of a city or town and download a map based on that location. From there, it is time to establish a new Infection Free Zone and turn whatever remains into a functioning settlement.

Knowing the layout of your chosen location could prove useful too. Where might the best buildings be to defend? Which areas could contain useful supplies? Where would you look for food, medicine or weapons?

The world may have changed, but your local knowledge could still be one of your most valuable survival tools.

Turn Empty Buildings Into A New Home

With society having collapsed, survivors will need far more than somewhere to sleep.

Existing buildings can be adapted for new purposes, while players will also need to establish production facilities and construct new structures to keep the settlement alive. Farms can help keep everyone fed, while power facilities and other essential infrastructure will be needed to turn a small group of survivors into something more sustainable.

Of course, there is another important consideration – keeping the infected out. Walls, gates and towers can all play a part in defending the Zone, particularly when the hordes begin to gather.

Surviving The Night Is Only Half The Battle

Infection Free Zone isn’t just about building. Every decision needs to be balanced against the constant threat lurking beyond the settlement.

Searching abandoned buildings can uncover valuable resources, but it is never entirely safe. The infected may be waiting inside, and sending survivors into danger is always a risk.

When larger attacks arrive, players will need to make use of everything available to them. Melee and ranged weapons can help hold the line, while vehicles, fortifications and lighting can all contribute to surviving the assault.

And just when you think you’ve got your settlement under control, other groups of survivors enter the equation. Some may be willing to trade and cooperate. Others may be considerably less welcoming.

The World Has Fallen – What Will You Do With What’s Left?

The idea of rebuilding civilisation after the apocalypse is nothing new, but Infection Free Zone adds its own spin by letting players start with a place that can feel familiar.

That could mean defending streets you know, scavenging around recognisable landmarks or simply wondering how well your local town would actually hold up when the infected come knocking.

Infection Free Zone is available now on Xbox Series X|S for ÂŁ24.99 from the Xbox Store. You’ll also find it on Steam if you prefer.

There are a couple of bundles to consider too. For £33.49, you can take your pick from the Infection Free Zone x I Am Your President bundle, or the similarly priced Infection Free Zone x Crime Simulator bundle.

The world may be over, but your next settlement is just getting started.
