Damways – now on Xbox and PC

If you’ve been keeping an eye on the Xbox Store over the past year or three, you’ll know Afil Games rarely stays quiet for long. The publisher has carved out a niche with affordable puzzle games that are easy to pick up but surprisingly satisfying to solve, and now it’s back with another cosy challenge.

Damways arrives today on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC, asking players to think like a beaver rather than simply move like one.

Available in three Xbox versions for ÂŁ4.19 each, this latest puzzler swaps crates and switches for lakes, logs and carefully placed dams, delivering another bite-sized brain workout.

At A Glance

  • Game: Damways
  • Developer: Afil Games
  • Publisher: Afil Games
  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC
  • Price: ÂŁ4.19 (three versions available)
  • Genre: Puzzle

Every Slide Counts

The central idea behind Damways is simple, as is the case for many Afil Games titles, but it quickly becomes more involved than it first appears.

Rather than moving one square at a time, your beaver slides across the water until something stops the journey. That could be the edge of the lake, a wall, a piece of timber – or a dam you’ve built yourself. Suddenly, every move becomes less about where you want to go, and more about where you’ll end up.

Build The Lake Around You

The real twist though? Well, that comes from the ability to reshape the environment.

Bundles of wood are scattered across each level, but you can only carry one at a time. Those logs become dams that alter your routes across the lake, opening new paths while potentially blocking old ones if you’re not paying attention.

Thankfully, there’s no punishment for trying different ideas. Unlimited undo and restart options make it easy to rethink your strategy until everything clicks into place.

Ready To Start Building?

Whether you’re a fan of Sokoban-inspired puzzlers or simply looking for something relaxing to enjoy between bigger releases, Damways offers another thoughtful challenge at an equally approachable price.

It’s available now through the Xbox Store, fully optimised for Xbox Series X|S, playable on Xbox One and for Windows PC, with each version priced at ÂŁ4.19.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
