When Lovecraft’s monsters, especially the terrifying Cthulhu, come into play, expect horrors, mysteries and adventures aplenty. And that is exactly what Call of Cthulhu brings.
Out today on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, Call of Cthulhu will see you playing as the private investigator known as Edward Pierce in 1924, following his traumatizing experiences from the Great War; you are tasked to explore the deaths of the Hawkins family on the ominously named Darkwater Island. Before long, Pierce soon finds himself caught up in mysteries, cults and supernatural monsters, leaving him battling against both insanity and what lurks around each corner in this dark and twisted world…
In a bid to escape and solve the mysteries behind the world Pierce is trapped in, you must blend together stealth mechanics, investigative conversation and logical deductions. But this is not as easy as it initially seems, as there will be a number of cosmic beings out for your life – nobody that you can talk to can be trusted, and as Pierce sees more and more out of the ordinary his mental state quickly becomes fractured, and his ability to make sound decisions is hindered. At some points even the player cannot trust Pierce himself, so it really is key that you keep tabs on leads and infer into clues well, to quickly and efficiently escape. Combat is not an option, especially when huge tentacled beasts are out and about, so between analysing clues you must be sneaking from area to area.
Unimaginable creatures, sanity-shattering events and both a bonkers and twisted world await you… Call of Cthulhu can now be played on Xbox One for £49.99. It is also on PS4 and PC but should you wish to know more, you could do a ton worse than keep an eye out for our review.
Good luck out there: trust me, you’ll need it!
