Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Storms Xbox & Game Pass – Here’s Why You Need to Play It

Call of Duty Black Ops 7
Call of Duty Black Ops 7 – now on Game Pass

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has finally arrived, landing on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Game Pass, PC, PlayStation 5, and, thanks to Xbox Play Anywhere, those who buy the digital Xbox version can play seamlessly on both console and Windows PC with shared saves, achievements and progress.

Available from £69.99 for the Cross-Gen Bundle, and included as part of Game Pass Ultimate, this year’s instalment marks Treyarch and Raven Software’s most ambitious Black Ops entry to date.

It also features a premium £99.99 Vault Edition, packed with cosmetics, Mastercraft weapons, GobbleGums, an Operator collection, the first season of BlackCell and more – with existing owners able to upgrade for £30.00.

Following on from Black Ops 6 – which we scored 3.5/5, noting that “it doesn’t reach the heights of the classics, but as a Game Pass title it doesn’t hurt to try” – this new entry aims to push the series forward with a more experimental campaign, vastly expanded Zombies and the deepest multiplayer launch offering in years.

It was also featured in our November rundown of “games that will steal your life”, and now that it’s here, it certainly looks ready to do exactly that.

A World On The Brink In 2035

Set in 2035, Black Ops 7 drops players into a fractured world under the shadow of psychological warfare, covert operations and escalating political tension. David Mason returns to lead an elite JSOC team, heading to the sprawling Mediterranean city of Avalon.

What begins as a routine covert strike soon reveals a plot capable of pulling the world – and the squad – into chaos, forcing them to face both external threats and internal demons.

A New Take On Co-Op Campaigning

The story unfolds through an innovative Co-Op Campaign, designed for solo players or groups looking to experience branching encounters, tactical freedom and shared progression. With multiple approaches to every mission, this format revitalises the Black Ops formula by encouraging experimentation, collaboration and replayability.

Multiplayer Launches With Big Numbers

This year’s multiplayer arrives stacked with content:

  • 16 brand new 6v6 maps
  • Two 20v20 large-scale battle maps
  • A rebuilt movement system with full Omnimovement, allowing unprecedented fluidity
  • A cutting-edge arsenal blending near-future tech and grounded weaponry

Whether you prefer precision play or chaotic team fights, this 2025 offering is one of the most fully loaded multiplayer launches the franchise has delivered in years.

The Biggest Round-Based Zombies Map Ever

Treyarch’s iconic Round-Based Zombies returns, and it’s bigger and more horrifying than ever.

The crew is thrown deep into the Dark Aether, trapped in a shifting, hostile landscape that evolves as players delve deeper. With new enemies, complex secrets and a map of enormous scale, this year’s mode feels like a full game in itself.

Key Features Of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7

  • Cross-Gen Bundle – Includes Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC versions (digital).
  • Xbox Play Anywhere Support – Play on Xbox and PC with unified saves and progress.
  • Vault Edition Bonuses – Mastercraft weapons, Operator skins, GobbleGums, BlackCell Season 1 and more.
  • Co-Op Campaign – A modern, replayable, flexible approach to Black Ops storytelling.
  • Multiplayer Overhaul – 16 6v6 maps, 20v20 arenas and the new Omnimovement system.
  • Expanded Zombies – The biggest Round-Based experience in Black Ops history.
  • Near-Future Setting – Psychological warfare and covert operations in 2035.
  • Included In Game Pass Ultimate – Available day one.

A New Benchmark For The Series?

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 feels like the franchise trying something genuinely bold. The campaign is more flexible, multiplayer is more varied, and Zombies is back in its most recognisable and fully-fledged form.

Combined with the generous Game Pass offering, it’s an entry that looks determined to surpass the solid (but not classic-tier) foundation laid by Black Ops 6.

Whether you’re here for competitive play, story-driven action or endless Zombies runs, Black Ops 7 aims to be the broadest and most replayable Black Ops yet – we’ll find out if that is true in our full review.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
