Desvelado Bed-Time-Vania platformer featuring a vampire exploring a candle-lit castle filled with puzzles and platforming challenges

Desvelado arrives on Xbox Series X|S and PC, delivering one of the most charmingly odd platforming concepts we’ve seen in a while.

Billed as the world’s first Bed-Time-Vania, this 2D adventure flips genre expectations on their head, tasking players not with conquering darkness, but with eliminating it entirely.

You play as Vampy, an eternally restless vampire whose greatest enemy isn’t a holy relic or rival clan, but insomnia. The goal is simple in theory – turn off every light in the castle and finally crawl into that cozy coffin for a proper rest. In practice, Desvelado turns that idea into a tightly designed, puzzle-led platformer packed with precision movement and thoughtful challenges.

A Castle Built For Platforming Puzzles

At its core, Desvelado is a classic 2D platformer, but one built around momentum and finesse. Sliding, jumping, and dashing are sharp and responsive, encouraging confident movement as you navigate increasingly complex rooms. Every mechanic feels deliberately tuned, ensuring that success comes from mastery rather than trial-and-error frustration.

You’ll get to discover across to more than 100 handcrafted rooms, with each space introducing new hazards, enemy patterns, or lighting-based puzzles to solve. Some rooms are optional, but those willing to explore thoroughly will uncover bonus challenges that test everything learned along the way – and reward persistence.

From Castle Halls To Dark Catacombs

Desvelado’s world is split into three distinct zones – The Castle, The Dungeon, and The Catacombs – each with its own identity and mechanical twists. These areas culminate in three final levels designed to push players to apply every skill they’ve picked up.

Visually, the game leans into a striking, slightly gory aesthetic, with hand-crafted animations that bring Vampy and his surroundings to life.

It’s all underscored by a suitably vampiric soundtrack that adds atmosphere without overwhelming the experience.

A Bed-Time-Vania With Bite

Rather than chasing sprawling Metroidvania conventions, Desvelado stays focused. It’s about tight level design, clever puzzle construction, and the joy of learning how to solve a room efficiently.

The result is something compact, confident, and refreshingly playful – a game that knows exactly what it wants to be.

Key Features At A Glance

  • Classic 2D platforming built around sliding, jumping, and dashing
  • Over 100 puzzle-filled rooms to master
  • Three main zones plus demanding final levels
  • Optional bonus rooms with rewards for completionists
  • Hand-crafted animations and a distinctive visual style
  • A unique “Bed-Time-Vania” concept centred on light, movement, and flow

A Dream Worth Chasing?

With its inventive hook and focused design, Desvelado feels perfectly suited to players who enjoy platformers that challenge both reflexes and reasoning. Whether you’re drawn in by the quirky premise or stay for the carefully constructed rooms, this is one vampire tale that proves originality still has plenty of bite.

Desvelado is available now on Xbox Series X|S and PC, through the Xbox Store for ÂŁ8.39.

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
