Atari have found some real success with their Recharged series of games, gaining acclaim for bringing old classics up to date for the modern era. The latest game to be hit with the Recharged stick is that of Caverns of Mars.Â
Giving players the chance to blast down into the depths of the caverns of the Red Planet, Caverns of Mars: Recharged is a stupidly addictive vertical scrolling shooter, but whereas you’re probably used to rolling up the screen, this time you’re going down, deep down, into the titular caverns of Mars themselves.Â
Shooting, dodging, applying a thruster brake in hope of not crashing your little ship, Caverns of Mars: Recharged is, in our opinion, one of the best additions to the Recharged series yet. We gave it a 4/5 in review and were super close to wanting to go higher. That review spoke highly of how Caverns of Mars looks and sounds great, how it comes with a seriously addicitve gameplay loop, and how the Missions (and the Arcade mode for that matter) will be a proper test of your gaming skills.Â
With leaderboards aplenty and the replayability levels extremely high, making your way through Mars is a joy – especially when you combine it with the utilisation of various weapons and the need to ensure your twitch reflexes are on point. Just be aware of the limited ammo you are given.
Caverns of Mars: Recharged can be found on the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players to enjoy, priced at a mere ÂŁ7.99. That’s a bargain, especially when you consider the local cooperative play that is in place too.Â
You’ll find the game on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Atari VCS too.Â
Game Description:
Caverns of Mars: Recharged takes the easy, addictive appeal of the original game and adds more caverns, more challenges, more weapons, modern graphics and leaderboards. And it would not be a Recharged title without an amazing new original soundtrack. In Caverns of Mars: Recharged you descend into tunnels beneath the surface of Mars in a mad dash to destroy the reactor and furthest depths of the enemy’s base. Dodge debris, clear out obstacles, and blast enemies, all while conserving ammunition as you descend at high speed into enemy territory. Your ammo is limited and enemies are plentiful, so make every shot count.
