Can You Play Jackie Chan Games on Any Xbox?

-

Throughout the 80s, 90s, and 00s, Jackie Chan was a star of the screen and gaming world. Predominantly in more eastern markets, the martial arts expert had a whole host of games come out to follow on from his movies or to go on brand new action-packed adventures of his own.

With Chan returning to the big screen to voice Splinter in another rerun of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, many more nostalgic-driven gamers will be fondly reminded of the Hong Kong star’s enjoyable runs in the medium. However, Xbox players will notably struggle to find a Jackie Chan game on the Microsoft console.

A grand history in gaming

Now 68 years old, Chan is still an incredibly famous name in Hollywood and beyond. While his more slapstick choreography and fight scenes lean more towards comedic movies, his games often put you in his near-superhuman shoes. You got to play as the hero, who was invariably Jackie Chan, making the most of his superb skill set.

Games like Jackie Chan in Project A, Protector, Jackie Chan in Spartan X, and Jackie Chan in The Police Story all came to MSX in the 80s. In the 90s, his games made the leap to arcade halls and home consoles. Jackie Chan’s Action Kung Fu was available on the NES, while The Kung Fu Master and Fists of Fire were popular at arcades.

The turn of the millennium and Y2K didn’t stop his momentum, with arguably two of his best games coming out in back-to-back years. In 2000, Jackie Chan Stuntmaster was great fun on the PlayStation. In 2001, Jackie Chan Adventures: Legend of the Dark Hand came to the GameBoy Advance, followed by a limited release on PlayStation 2.

Just as many past titles have been based on Chan’s cinematic runs, his most recent games in the newer spaces of entertainment have also drawn on his famous movies. Fantasy Mission Force (1983) and Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow (1978) have proven to be the inspiration of Chan’s slots real money entrants. With 50 free spins available to new players, the platform boasts both Fantasy Mission Force and Eagle Shadow Fist, with Chan as the star.

Anything on the Xbox for Chan fans?

The closest call of Jackie Chan’s video, slot, and arcade games to coming to the Xbox was Jackie Chan Adventures. Released in 2001 and set to come to North America via Hip Games in 2005, the company went bankrupt, and so, the PS2 game only came to Europe, and just as Xbox was ready to move from the original to the mighty Xbox 360.

On the Microsoft Store, you’ll find a few films, like Jackie Chan’s First Strike (1997) and Jackie Chan’s Who Am I? (1998), and the first season of Jackie Adventures, but none of the games. That is unless you dig deeper into games not titled ‘Jackie Chan.’

Clearly put in as Jackie Chan’s character Wong Fei-Hung in Drunken Master, you can essentially fight as Jackie Chan in Shaolin vs Wutang as well as Shaolin vs Wutang 2. If you choose Drunken Fist, you can take on Jeet Kune Do (Bruce Lee), Wing Chin (Donnie Yen’s Ip Man) and even Wu Shu (Jet Li). The one-vs-one fighting game plays rather well on Xbox and PC, being somewhat retro in its presentation – which is perfect for Jackie Chan fans.

So, while you’ve never been able to play any direct Jackie Chan games on an Xbox console, you can still play as the superstar stunt artist in the Shaolin vs Wutang series.
