It’s time to take on The Chant

The Chant is Brass Token and Prime Matter’s cosmic cult horror affair, a game which will throw you onto Glory Island in order to face your very darkest of fears. But will you be one to stand and fight? Or will you be fleeing at the earliest opportunity?

Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC, The Chant is an action-adventure affair in which you join Jess, washed up an a remote island as she looks to take in the most serene of spiritual retreats. But this is a video game, and in video games things go wrong, quickly.

Mixing up some seriously surreal vibes with survival action and lore-driven storytelling, The Chant will have you attempting to uncover the mysteries at hand. To do so you’ll need to work a variety of angles – mostly those of Mind, of Body and of Spirit – balancing all in order to find progress.

The Chant is something we’ve been lookimg forward to for some time and whilst we’re currently deep in review, you’ll need to hold tight for a few more days in order to take in our review.

When it’s here we’ll talk you through how this plays on Xbox Series X|S, how we fond the spiritual combat system, how the environment draws us in and how the soundtrack adds to that immersion. It promises to be something a bit special.

“We’re deeply excited to release our first game and we hope others enjoy all the care and curiosity our team put into it”, Mike Skupa, Creative Director of The Chant.

Key game features:

  • EXPLORE AN ISLAND FILLED WITH COSMIC DREAD – Interact with the other members of the retreat as they slowly become consumed by their own negative energy. Survive against an array of prismatic creatures and cultists released from The Gloom as you piece together the weird history of the island.
  • FIGHT OR FLIGHT – You must choose your fights and battle for survival with spiritual weapons and abilities. Collect, craft, and manage your resources to take your chances in close combat – or succumb to panic and flee.
  • MIND BODY SPIRIT – Balance is everything. Steel your mind against horror and panic; Protect your body against physical threats; Elevate your spirit to meditate and access supernatural abilities…
  • MODERN PSYCHEDELIC HORROR – Inspired by the psychedelic horror of the 1970s, experience a landscape of colored lighting and an electronic rock soundtrack, composed by the award-winning Paul Ruskay.

Your spiritual nightmare awaits as The Chant is available to download from the Xbox Store right now, playable on Xbox Series X|S. There may not be any Xbox One love here, but you can also grab it on PS5 and PC, whilst it’s also fully playable on NVIDIA GeForce Now too.

Game Description:

A single-player, third person horror action-adventure game set on a remote spiritual island retreat. To survive you must craft, fight, and escape the psychedelic horrors set loose when a spiritual ritual goes wrong and awakens a dimension of cosmic terror.

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
