With the Resident Evil series recently having hit all-new heights with the launch of Resident Evil 7 biohazard, and then the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes, Capcom are on a bit of a run. Seems about right to confirm the next iteration in the series then, eh? And at PlayStation’s Future of Gaming event, that is exactly what they did with the announcement of Resident Evil Village.
Survival horror is on the verge of evolution once more and after seeing the most recent Resident Evil games and Devil May Cry 5 utilise the power of Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, things are getting ready to get better still. By utilising that same engine, and adding in the power of next generation technology found in Xbox Series X and PS5, Resident Evil Village will be able to deliver the most realistic, and the most terrifying, visuals to date.
In the debut cinematic trailer, Capcom revealed a glimpse of the evocative new setting and storyline of Resident Evil Village. Set a few years after the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 7 biohazard, the all-new storyline begins with Ethan and his wife Mia living peacefully in a new location, free from their past nightmares. However, just as they are building their new life together, tragedy befalls them once again. It is here where Chris Redfield, the legendary hero from the Resident Evil series, comes in, as he is reacquainted with the couple and horribly disrupts their life, leaving Ethan devastated and thrown into an entirely new nightmare.
Plaing out as a first person survival horror, Resident Evil Village begins when players assume the role of a distraught and shattered Ethan as he seeks to uncover the mysterious new horrors that plague a once peaceful village. Throughout this terrifying journey, players will fight for every breath as they are hunted by vicious new enemies that have infested the snow-capped locale.
Resident Evil Village will channel the capabilities of both Xbox Series X and PS5 to provide detailed realism and a relentless feeling of fear which will increase with each desperate battle for survival, while moments of calm will leave players wondering what new horrors await.
Check out that trailer below and then hold tight as we move into the months ahead. One thing is for sure, if you’re a Resident Evil fan, you’re going to love Resident Evil Village on Xbox Series X, PS5 and PC.
