Original Article – February 5th 2026

Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters has been officially unveiled, with Bandai Namco confirming the high-energy football sequel will launch in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

And for Xbox fans, this one carries extra weight as it marks the first full Captain Tsubasa console game to land on Xbox.

Building on the over-the-top anime football action the series is known for, World Fighters promises a bigger, flashier global stage, packed with national teams, signature super moves, and a strong focus on player-driven storytelling.

A Bigger World Stage With More Teams And Characters

Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters expands the scope dramatically, delivering a truly international showdown inspired by the anime’s most iconic moments.

Players can expect:

  • 22 national teams from around the world
  • Over 110 playable characters
  • More than 150 animated special moves, each crafted to capture the drama and flair of the series

The newly revealed trailer showcases clashes between global challengers, including teams that didn’t appear in the previous game, alongside original squads and characters created specifically for World Fighters. Every match leans heavily into spectacle, with fluid animation and cinematic flourishes designed to recreate those once-in-a-lifetime football moments.

Create Your Own Player And Chase Glory With Tsubasa

Unlike the original console release, World Fighters places a strong emphasis on player creation and progression. Fans will be able to craft their own character and join Tsubasa on a personal journey toward international success.

Along the way, players will get the chance to form new friendships on and off the pitch, face fresh rivals from across the globe, and ultimately compete for football’s grandest of prizes.

This narrative-driven approach gives World Fighters a more personal edge, blending anime storytelling with competitive football action.

Enhanced On-Pitch Action And Tactical Super Moves

Gameplay in Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters has been reworked to amplify intensity across every phase of play. Passing, dribbling, tackling, and blocking all benefit from new super moves, letting players dominate matches with their own unique techniques.

One of the biggest changes comes in goalmouth encounters. A new system introduces a tactical duel between shooter and goalkeeper, turning every shot into a dramatic mind game where timing, counters, and spectacular blocks can decide the outcome.

It’s all about momentum, flair, and perfectly timed moments of brilliance.

Captain Tsubasa And Xbox – A Long Time Coming

While Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions launched back in 2020 on PlayStation, Switch, and PC, Xbox players were left watching from the sidelines. World Fighters finally brings the franchise to Xbox consoles, opening the door for a new audience to experience its distinctive blend of anime storytelling and arcade-style football.

We’ve already seen Captain Tsubasa branching out in recent years, including its crossover with eFootball in 2025. That should be proof that the series continues to resonate well beyond its original fanbase.

Whether you’re a long-time fan of the anime or jumping in fresh on Xbox, this one is shaping up to be a spectacle worth keeping an eye on as 2026 approaches.
