Celebrate 25 years of PES with the eFootball PES 2021 Season Update

It may not be the usual annual release, but you can’t knock Konami for wanting to celebrate 25 years of their greatest footballing franchise without some kind of update. And that is what we have here and now as the eFootball PES 2021 Season Update hits home on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

In a usual year we’d see Konami and EA going toe-to-toe, vying for the crown of the greatest footballing experience of the year with releases of eFootball PES and FIFA. But as we all know, 2020 is no normal year and Konami have therefore taken the opportunity to just push out the smallest of updates to last year’s footballing extravaganza. Yep, this may just be eFootball PES 2020 to many, but to others the addition of the PES 2021 Season Update means it is the go-to game to play.

So what do we have this time around? Well, the free addition of the UEFA EURO 2020 content is in place (although you should already have that if you have the 2020 edition), but alongside that we see the latest player and club data rolling out alongside some nifty little visual upgrades. Whether that is enough to sell a purchase of 2021 to an existing PES 2020 player is up for debate, and the £24.99 asking price seems a little steep in the grand scheme of things, but it is what it is and we’d never tell anyone what they can or can’t do with their cash.

What is more tempting is the addition of Partner Club Editions of PES 2021. Priced at £29.99 and available for fans of Barcelona, Juventus, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Arsenal, these come with more specific club based content; myClub squads, Iconic Moment Series players, unique kits and more. If you’re looking to express your love for your club, this should sort you out. Unless of course you don’t support one of those five, in which case your admiration for cover stars Messi, Ronaldo, Rashford and Davies will have to make do.

PES 2021 comes with the usual game modes too – after all, this is a reskin of eFootball PES 2020 – and that means the inclusion of Master League, MatchDay, MyClub, and more. Standard. PES. Stuff.

We’ll have a full review of the PES 2021 Season Update on Xbox One coming your way in the days ahead, but if we’re honest, don’t expect too much of a change from what was provided in our eFootball PES 2020 review back in 2019. This is pretty much the same game, just with a little visual overhaul and new data additions.

If you’re happy with that though then the Xbox Store will sort out Xbox One players, whilst the PlayStation Store will do the same for PS4 ballers. Those on PC will find the update available on Steam. Let us know in the comments if you decide to pick it up.

Game Description:

The eFootball PES 2021 Season Update features the same award winning gameplay as last year’s eFootball PES 2020 along with various team and player updates for the new season. Also comes with the UEFA EURO 2020â„¢ mode – all at a special anniversary price!
