Clockwork Blackout – out now on Xbox and PC

If you’re expecting explosions and all-out rebellion, Clockwork Blackout goes the other way. This is about slipping through gaps, hugging the shadows and knowing that the smallest mistake can undo everything you’ve worked towards.

Now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC in three versions for £4.19, this stealth-driven 2D platformer from Synnergy Circle Games drops you into a city ruled by machinery, secrets and a corporation that clearly has something to hide.

A City Powered By Secrets

Clockwork Blackout sets its story in a steampunk world where a single megacorporation controls everything. Factories churn endlessly, machinery fills every corner, and rumours swirl about experiments that shouldn’t exist. Mutant creatures, hidden deep within corporate walls, are said to be part of something far bigger.

You step in as a lone hacker, not to fight back directly, but to uncover the truth. Your goal is simple on paper – infiltrate, find the evidence, and get out. In practice, it’s anything but.

Stay Hidden, Stay Alive

This is a game that rewards patience over power. Clockwork Blackout is built around stealth, meaning every movement matters. You’re not here to take enemies head-on. Instead, you’ll be watching patrol routes, slipping through shadows and picking the right moment to move.

Each section pushes you deeper into the corporation’s headquarters, asking you to navigate increasingly complex layouts while avoiding detection. Along the way, you’ll be searching for digital evidence that exposes what’s really going on behind closed doors.

Small Scale, High Stakes

Clockwork Blackout doesn’t try to overcomplicate things. It takes a straightforward idea – sneak in, uncover the truth, escape – and builds a focused experience around it. For players who enjoy stealth gameplay without unnecessary distractions, there’s something appealing in that simplicity.

You’re not here to save the world in one dramatic moment. You’re here to expose it, quietly, carefully… if you can make it out.

Clockwork Blackout is available from the Xbox Store, and you can pick from three flavours. There’s the Windows PC drop, a version that plays on Xbox One, and then the usual Xbox Series X|S Optimised edition. Take your pick.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
