The F1 world is fast getting up to speed, with plans afoot to hit Austria, Hungary and then the UK in quick succession, kickstarting the F1 2020 season and allowing Lewis Hamilton the chance to go for that record equalling seventh world championship. But in the virtual world things are continuing regardless and as the final virtual Grand Prix – at least, we hope it’s the final one – prepares to see the stars racing it out, Codemasters are continuing the hype around their game, by delivering us a first look at the split-screen capabilities that are promised.
So, F1 2020 will be coming to Xbox One, PS4, PC and Google Stadia from July 10th 2020 – although those purchasing the stunning Michael Schumacher Deluxe Edition will get early access on that – and when it does arrive we’ll be given the chance to head into a huge season full of the fastest, most intense racing.
Part of the draw of F1 2020 won’t be spending time taking in lap after lap alone though, and the new split-screen mode will be there to cater for those looking to enjoy some local multiplayer action. The latest trailer shows this off brilliantly – captured in-game we not only see Valtteri Bottas’ Mercedes and Lance Stroll’s Racing Point going toe-to-toe around Canada’s Circuit de Gilles-Villeneuve, but can also check out some of the adjustments and aesthetic chaes that have been made to the circuit.
The Canadian Grand Prix has been a staple of the F1 calendar since the late ‘60s, with Circuit de Gilles-Villeneuve holding the mantle in almost every F1 season since 1978. The circuit features some of the heaviest braking zones around with a long straight before the hairpin on turn 10 and the famous final chicane beside the wall of champions on the start/finish straight, and it has provided some stunning races over the year. Who can forget Jenson Button’s chaoctic race win back in 2011?
Make sure you check out what Codemasters have to offer by taking in the video below. If you are then still in need of an F1 fix then tune in to the official F1 Youtube channel, via Twitch, or across Facebook and Weibo to see the likes of Alex Albon, Nicholas Latifi, George Russell, Valtteri Bottas and Pierre Gasly return for the final Virtual Grand Prix on F1 2019.
If you haven’t yet got your money in on a pre-order of F1 2020 then the usual digital stores should be visited. The Xbox Store – because you know, we’re primarily an Xbox focused site – is right here.
