The funk returns to Xbox as PopSlinger Vol. 2 – Loveless launches on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, bringing more rhythm-infused shooting, colourful visuals, and coffee-powered combat to the screen.

Priced at £8.39, this sequel builds on the foundations laid by the original PopSlinger while pushing the story and gameplay into even stranger territory.

If you remember when PopSlinger first landed on Xbox back in 2024, you’ll know this is a series that thrives on personality, music, and a distinctly retro-modern aesthetic. Now, the next chapter is ready to brew.

PopSlinger Vol. 2 – Loveless At A Glance

  • Musical shooter sequel to PopSlinger
  • Available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S
  • Price: £8.39
  • Coffee-powered combat mechanics
  • New enemies, abilities, and story developments
  • Developed by Funky Can Creative
  • Published by Ocean Media

Coffee, Combat, And Chaos

PopSlinger Vol. 2 – Loveless picks up with Agent Cooper McLaren of JAVA (Juncture Against Various Anomalies), who now teams up with Akane 2.0, a reformed digital idol, in search of Ria; the heroine of the original game who has mysteriously disappeared.

Their journey takes them through the strange and unpredictable Purple District, where surreal environments and unusual enemies await. From shrine-like baseball stadiums to arena-style battlegrounds, the sequel leans heavily into its playful imagination.

Combat remains rooted in the series’ signature idea of coffee-powered weaponry. Alongside returning mechanics, players will find new abilities like enemy-stunning summons and improvements to the Dream Time system, all designed to keep battles fluid and energetic.

A Soundtrack That Moves With You

Music has always been central to PopSlinger’s identity, and Loveless doubles down on that approach. The soundtrack blends Future Funk, French House, Rave, and Pop Punk, dynamically reacting to player performance during combat.

Combined with New Retro visuals inspired by ‘90s cartoons and anime, fully voiced dialogue, and vibrant cutscenes, the sequel aims to deliver a bigger and more expressive audiovisual experience.

It’s the kind of game that feels as much like a music video as it does a shooter.

New Enemies And A Deeper Story

Beyond style, PopSlinger Vol. 2 – Loveless introduces more tactical challenges. Players will face colour-switching enemies and black-and-white variants that require quick reactions and strategy rather than simple run-and-gun shooting.

Meanwhile, the narrative explores themes of family drama and identity, expanding the world introduced in the first game while maintaining its playful tone.

Brewing Up Another Stylish Adventure

Sequels often try to play it safe, but PopSlinger Vol. 2 – Loveless seems determined to push its ideas further, whether that be visually, musically, and mechanically.

No matter whether you’re returning for the funky shooter action or discovering the series for the first time, this coffee-powered adventure is ready to pour another cup of chaos. Don’t expect the zen-vibes of Coffee Talk though. This is a completely different beast.

PopSlinger Vol. 2 – Loveless is available now on the Xbox Store. You’ll get to play on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S for £8.39.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
