When it comes to colonising far away planets, the title to look up to currently is surely Aven Colony. However, Igloosoft and tinyBuild have opted to run Farworld Pioneers as a pixelated 2D side-scroller, complete with that classic tinyBuild charm, and up to 32-player multiplayer!
Releasing today on Xbox, Game Pass, PlayStation, Switch and PC, Farworld Pioneers is a survival sim that sees you and your merry band of scientists crash land on an alien planet. Over the following planet-days, planet-weeks and planet-months you will accrue a plethora of resources, mined out of the ground, complex farms to sustain society on, and perhaps even a spaceship as an escape vessel, should the need arise.
Crafting and Combat Aplenty in Farworld Pioneers on Xbox Game Pass
Aside from the core gameplay loop of mining resources, and using said resources to build out your colony, as is the case with any colony-building sim worth its salt, another of Farworld Pioneer’s key systems lies within combat.
As well as hunting alien wildlife to keep your health and stamina topped up, every once in a while your colony will be under threat from invading enemy raiders. You’ll need to equip yourself with blasters, and tons of grenades, if you wish to come out successful, and see your society live another day.
Two’s Company, and 32 is a lot!
Despite the intricate building system, deep combat and the like, perhaps the most impressive thing about Farworld Pioneers is that it is able to support up to 32 players on the same server, all vying for the best land on this faraway planet.
Whether you have built up your own community as a solo player, or with friends, you can make use of this server-wide faction system, to team up with others across the world.
Allegiances will grow, friendships will blossom – but when the stakes are high, make sure you aren’t the one who is stabbed in the back.
