Witness the Beginning

Commandos: Origins takes you back to the hushed shadows of World War II’s most pivotal moments, revealing how the legendary unit was formed. Meet the six infamous characters as they first band together:

  • Jack O’Hara (“the Green Beret”)
  • Thomas Hancock (“the Sapper”)
  • Francis T. Woolridge (“the Sniper”)
  • Samuel Brooklyn (“the Driver”)
  • James Blackwood (“the Marine”)
  • Rene Duchamp (“the Spy”)

Learn their storied histories and guide them as they undertake missions deemed impossible for any other force.

“Mission accomplished,” said Jürgen Reusswig, Studio Director at Claymore Game Studios. “With the release of Commandos: Origins, we’re taking players back to where it all began, and let them experience firsthand how this special unit was formed and grew into the band of brothers we remember from the old games. Working on this legendary franchise has been a journey of passion, and now, we’re very excited to let fans step into the boots of the six original Commandos. The adventure starts here, and we’re eager for players to relive the origins of this legendary unit while further improving the game with the feedback of the community.”

Classic Tactics, Modern Execution

This is the challenging, real-time tactical stealth gameplay the series is famous for, refined for a modern audience:

  • Combine Unique Skills: Make the best use of each Commando’s abilities – stealth, sabotage, demolitions, driving, sniping, and disguise – to overcome incredible odds.
  • Infiltrate and Strike: Sneak into enemy facilities, hit them where it hurts most, and vanish back into the shadows.
  • Varied Environments: Execute missions across more than 10 historically authentic WWII locations, from the icy plains of the Arctic to the vast deserts of Africa and the coastlines of Europe.
  • Multiple Approaches: Detailed, interactive environments allow for numerous ways to achieve your objectives. Sneak, climb, swim, drive various vehicles, or hide and creep your way to success.
  • Modern Controls: A precise and intuitive user experience allows you to coordinate complex actions simultaneously with expert precision.

Bring a Friend

You don’t have to face the high-risk missions alone! Commandos: Origins features a 2-player cooperative multiplayer mode, playable either online or via local split-screen, allowing you to tackle the campaign with a friend.

We’ll let you know how that goes in full review. But we’ve already got this one in our Best Games of April article, so hopes are high.

Whether you’re a long-time fan eager to see the origins story or a newcomer looking for a deep tactical challenge (especially via Game Pass), Commandos: Origins is ready for deployment.

It’s time to gather your squad, whether that be on Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, PS5 or PC, and shape the fate of the world!

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
