Constructive couch co-op challenges confirmed with Bonkies release date

Fancy cooperating with loved ones and creating crazy contraptions with jet-pack equipped space monkeys? Yeah, Bonkies is going to be a game for you.

We first heard of Bonkies back in May 2020, but now those at Studio Gauntlet and Crunching Koalas – they previously behind WARSAW – are gearing up for full release of their utterly crazy jolly party game, with a confirmed release date of January 29th 2021 now set.

Coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC, Bonkies is a game that is ripe for those lovers of couch co-op as you take charge of a pack of animals who are looking to colonise the solar system. Yep, this is a game about monkeys, banana-fuelled jet-packs, robo-arms and contraptions as you go about attempting to construct all manner of things.

Due to launch on the 29th Jan with a £12.99 price tag in place – pre-order it now and you’ll get a nifty little discount on that – Bonkies features both single and multiplayer options, providing levels that will require a host of cooperation, a ton of wit, plenty of agility and more than a smattering of coordination in order to find success. And hell, even then we can’t be sure the cast of lovable monkeys you are trying to control will do as they are told.

If you’re up for a bit of a challenge, either alone or with sofa based mates – although if you’re playing on Steam the Remote Play may come in handy – then Bonkies is one to keep an eye on.

Key features include:

  • Have fun with up to 3 friends or by yourself in single and multiplayer campaigns
  • Raise and accidentally topple stacked blocks with physics-based mechanics
  • Travel to the far reaches of the solar system and help colonise places like Mars and Pluto
  • Tease your brain with tons of cleverly designed challenges
  • Make good use of a multitude of special blocks
  • Guide monkey astronauts with state-of-the-art equipment

Our full review will be whipped up and ready to roll hopefully as the game rolls out on to the Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC stores. Keep an eye out for it.

We’ll remind you when that launch happens too. Check out the latest trailer in the meantime.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
