Corpse Party comes to Xbox

The original Corpse Party released in Japan way back in 1996. Some 25 years later though, it’s finally made it to Europe, the Americas and, most notably, Xbox.

Available to purchase and download this very minute, Corpse Party on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S is a survival horror which has previously picked up some cult status feels. It’s priced at £17.19 from the Xbox Store and sees us entering the haunted halls of Heavenly Host Elementary. From there, anything could happen.

Fully upgraded for the next generation (although disappointingly not optimised for Xbox Series X|S), Corpse Party tells of a friendship and a ritual that has gone wrong. You see, it focuses on Ayumi Shinozaki, a high school student who has been transported with her friends to an alternate reality universe. Vengeful spirits await the gang, with their only hope of survival being connected to the uncovering of the murders of those who were trapped previous.

If you know of the Corpse Party series then you’ll know what to expect here, but if not, listen up. You’re getting some gorgeously retro 16-bit visuals, some heart pounding audio, the chance to let your imagination run wild and more content than ever before. You see, there are the five main chapters of the original game included here, but then multiple extras included to keep you going back for more. With the chance to explore every single inch of Heavenly Host Elementary, working point-and-click elements mixed with RPG styles, there should be much to draw Corpse Party fans in.

Features in summary:

  • Atmospheric Retro-Style Graphics – Gorgeous 16-bit-style visuals paired with gruesome descriptions and heart-pounding sound design will have your imagination running wild with visions of horror.
  • Every Choice Counts – Explore every corner of Heavenly Host Elementary with a cross between point-and-click adventure gameplay and a battleless RPG, making choices that significantly change the course of the story and its characters’ fates.
  • More Content than Ever – On top of the original five main story chapters and fourteen Extra Chapters, two new Extra Chapters delve into the relationship between series favorites Ayumi and Yoshiki, as well as introduce Miku Shirayume and Ryoka Iwami, two characters with their own intriguing roles to play in the grisly legend of Heavenly Host Elementary.
  • Another Dimension in Horror – Put on headphones to immerse yourself in the fully voiced Japanese audio and bone-crunching sound effects thanks to the binaural 3D recording techniques, creating a simulated surround sound experience that will have you looking over your shoulder at every turn.

We’ll be sure to let you know how it sits on Xbox with a full review of Corpse Party in the days ahead. For now though you can grab the copy you need from the Xbox Store

Game Description:

“Sachiko, we beg of you…” A friendship ritual gone awry transports high school student Ayumi Shinozaki and her friends to an alternate reality version of a tragedy-stricken institution that stood on the site of their own school long ago. As the vengeful spirits of elementary school students threaten their lives and their sanity, their only hope of survival–much less escape–is to uncover the chilling details surrounding the murders of those trapped before them.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
