Skelethrone The Chronicles of Ericona The Jewel in the Skull

Fans of the brutally challenging action of Skelethrone: The Chronicles of Ericona have a new perilous journey to undertake in The Jewel in the Skull DLC.

Available today, The Jewel in the Skull goes about adding a mysterious new chapter filled with nightmarish locations, formidable foes, and powerful artifacts.

Board Mardek’s Nightmare Ship

This expansion invites players to embark on a dark quest aboard the labyrinthine ship of the mad genius, Mardek. Your goal? To locate the legendary artifact known as “The Jewel in the Skull.”

This powerful relic is said to grant access to the Ghost World, holding the key to uncovering the truth behind the fate of Demagrass, Queen Aurora’s brother, whose story is shrouded in mystery.

Be warned, however – Mardek’s vessel is described as a “living nightmare.” Expect to navigate treacherous corridors filled with deadly traps, grotesque monsters born from mad experiments, and remnants of the ship’s twisted creator. Every step could be your last as you tread the shaky line between worlds.

New Lands, Foes, and Gear

The Jewel in the Skull significantly expands the world of Skelethrone with:

  • 4 New Biomes: Explore entirely new environments within Mardek’s ship and potentially beyond.
  • Over 20 New Enemies: Face a host of fresh horrors and challenging adversaries.
  • 5 Unique Bosses: Test your skills against powerful new guardians and monstrosities.
  • New Weapons and Equipment: Discover new tools to aid your survival and enhance your combat prowess.

Accessing the Adventure

This new content is designed to integrate seamlessly into the main game experience. Players can access the new regions in two ways:

  • Mid-Storyline: After reaching a specific key point while progressing through the main campaign.
  • Post-Game: After defeating the final boss of the base game, without needing to start New Game+.

This flexibility allows both ongoing players and those who have completed the main story to dive into the new mystery.

Pricing and Editions

Skelethrone: The Chronicles of Ericona – The Jewel in the Skull is available now with a couple of options:

  • Standalone DLC: Purchase the DLC pack for ÂŁ4.99 (requires the base game Skelethrone: The Chronicles of Ericona).
  • Complete Edition: Get the base game and The Jewel in the Skull DLC bundled together for ÂŁ15.74.

Expanding a Challenging Chronicle

This DLC adds more content to a game known for its demanding difficulty. As we noted in our 3.5/5 review of the base game: “Skelethrone: The Chronicles of Ericona is a game that packs a real challenge; a game that will test your patience as well as your reflexes. The basic premise is engaging and it tells a good tale, but the extreme difficulty and numb combat will make you question your life choices. If you eat Elden Ring for breakfast, have at it, but the rest of us mere mortals will have to approach Skelethrone: The Chronicles of Ericona much more cautiously.

For those who revelled in that intense challenge and are eager for more punishment wrapped in mystery, The Jewel in the Skull promises a substantial new adventure. Do you dare look into the abyss once more?

You can find and play Skelethrone: The Chronicles of Ericona on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
