Having previously been announced for PC, the highly anticipated sword-fighting RPG Warlander is now set for a release on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. So prepare to slash your way through the realms of darkness on console this year in what’s seen as a fantasy adventure inspired by the Jedi Knight series.
Developed by Clock Drive Games, Warlander is all of the above and is a narrative-driven experience as well, seeing players thrown into a rather menacing environment to delve into the relationship between the hero and his sentient sword. The combat is expected to be brutal in terms of both the difficulty of mastering the swordplay and the realistically harsh nature of slicing through flesh – thanks to the ragdoll physics, which are sure to bring immense satisfaction to finishing off a variety of enemies.
You’ll have the option to customise your combat style through an in-game progression system, enabling the possibility to upgrade and acquire new abilities via three expansive and diverse skill trees. The end result is a devastating combination of abilities at your disposal, which are then complemented further by the environmental dangers that can also be used as a weapon against enemy threats.
“The games we drew inspiration from such as Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, played beautifully on console so we’re aiming to bring that same rich and premium experience to the players,” said Goran Rajsic, creative director for Clock Drive Games. “With deep RPG mechanics and incredibly smooth combat mechanics, Warlander will be a title with tons of replay value for our fans.”
Goran then went on to add that “We struck the perfect balance of sword-fighting gameplay, an in-game progression system, and customizable RPG elements that captured the essence of the genre but also added our own twist to it.”
There’s no officially confirmed release date for Warlander on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 yet, but it will be some time in 2019. And if you still aren’t quite sure what to expect, may we avert your attention to this very appealing trailer that does a great job of highlighting the swordplay and how enjoyable it’s going to be!
