It’s not every day a platforming adventure stars an octopus trying to outsmart an industrial nightmare, but Darwin’s Paradox! runs with that idea.
What starts as a quiet moment in the ocean quickly spirals into something far stranger, pulling players into a world of machines, mystery and unexpected danger.
Now available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC for £19.99, this cinematic adventure from KONAMI and ZDT Studio delivers a mix of platforming, puzzle-solving and storytelling, all wrapped around one very clever cephalopod.
We’re so excited for this one, we included Darwin’s Paradox! in our best games of April article.

From Ocean Depths To Industrial Chaos
Darwin’s journey begins in the calm of the deep sea, but it doesn’t stay that way for long. A mysterious force drags him to the surface and drops him into a sprawling industrial complex filled with strange machinery, dangerous creatures and more than a few unanswered questions.
It’s a sharp contrast in environments, and that sense of displacement drives much of the game’s atmosphere. You’re constantly navigating spaces that feel hostile, unfamiliar and clearly not built for something like Darwin.
A Platformer With A Few Extra Tricks
Darwin isn’t just another platforming hero. Being an octopus comes with advantages, and the game makes the most of them.
You’ll swim, climb, squeeze through tight spaces and use camouflage to avoid danger. The combination of abilities means levels aren’t just about jumping from point A to B; they’re about figuring out how to move through each space in your own way.
Puzzle-solving is woven naturally into the experience, often asking you to think differently about how to approach obstacles.
A World That Feels Alive And Unpredictable
The environments in Darwin’s Paradox! are more than just backdrops. Each area feels carefully designed, filled with hazards, secrets and unexpected encounters.
From towering machinery to cluttered junkyards, there’s always something new to discover. Along the way, you’ll meet a range of strange characters, some helpful, others… less so.
A Journey Years In The Making
Darwin’s Paradox! has been on the radar for some time, first appearing on our pages back in 2022 as we covered the debut project from an ex-Arkane director using Unreal Engine 5.
Now fully realised, it arrives as a polished, visually striking adventure that clearly aims to stand out through both its concept and execution.
Worth Diving Into?
Our full review of Darwin’s Paradox! is very much on the way, but this feels like one of those games that thrives on curiosity. It doesn’t rush you, but it constantly nudges you forward, encouraging exploration and experimentation.
If you’re after an adventure that mixes puzzles, platforming and a strong sense of personality, this is one journey that’s well worth taking.
Find Darwin’s Paradox! on the usual storefronts, like that of the Xbox Store. You’ll need to pay £19.99 for access.
Unfortunately, at launch Darwin’s Paradox is not available as part of your Xbox Game Pass subscription.
