It was back in the autumn of 2019 when we saw the launch of Daymare: 1998 on PC, but today it’s all about the console edition of the game as the teams at Destructive Creations, All in! Games and Invader Studios detail the Xbox One and PS4 launch.

A thrilling third-person survival horror game, Daymare: 1998 will release on Xbox One and PS4 come 28th April 2020, allowing a whole host of new gamers the opportunity to witness what has been making PC gamers so pleased.

A classic survival horror experience, Daymare: 1998 is a third-person survival horror game with hardcore survival mechanics and unyielding enemies. It requires a strategic approach to combat and puzzles and offers a multi-character perspective of the story, revealing deep and obscure lore. The story tells of a secret research facility, a deadly chemical weapon, and a special security team tasked with investigating an incident with the potential to become more than a routine security breach.

It is here where you begin to follow the steps of an elite soldier, a helicopter pilot, and a forest ranger as they play out their roles in an event that transforms one peaceful small town into a dead-zone and its citizens into bloodthirsty monsters. You’ll be tasked with taking the creatures down at first, before scouring the landscape for any clues or evidence that you can piece together to make sense of the chaos. Keeping track of your inventory will be crucial though, as resources will be scarce, and anything can happen when your daymares become real.

Slipgate Studios have been working hard to bring this title to both major console platforms in the best quality possible, not sacrificing anything from the original PC version. Already built to be played with a controller, the gameplay feel promises to be natural and responsive, as required for some third-person action among a horde of bloodthirsty monsters.

“After seeing the positive feedback Daymare: 1998 has been receiving on PC, we’re excited to be able to bring this game to console players. And seeing our game on the shelves of retail stores is just a dream come true. Hope everybody will enjoy their visit to Keen Sight,” says Michele Giannone, Business Development Director of Invader Studios.

We’ll find Daymare: 1998 released simultaneously across Europe and the Americas on 28th April 2020 both in digital format and then in retail stores for those preferring the PS4 way of life. That physical aspect will be thanks to the publishers’ distribution partners Meridiem Games (EU) and GS2 Games (US).

The main features of Daymare: 1998 include:

  • Multi-character POV – see the story from different angles and discover the truth;
  • Fearsome enemies – rendered in detail with lifelike animations and dismemberment;
  • Realistic HUD – check your inventory, health, and the position of a given piece of equipment;
  • Environmental puzzles – finding your way around is not always easy, so look for clues;
  • Classic mechanics – limited ammo and save points, backtracking, collectibles, tough enemies, and more;
  • Modern graphics and effects – not everything is old-school, thanks to Unreal Engine 4;
  • Experience the 90s – the game is an homage to the era, with tons of references.
