The dead of Telltale arise in the latest Xbox Backwards Compatible additions – are they worth the return?

-

With the Xbox One X pre-order excitement that came out of Gamescom and the plethora of new games that have hit the store this week, you’d be forgiven for forgetting all about Xbox Backwards Compatibility, especially given the quiet week from new arrivals. Things are heating up once more however with three all new additions bringing back the familiar faces of an unforgettable cast once more. Here are our thoughts on the latest corpse ridden Telltale additions to hit the backwards compatibility program.

The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series – Play

What a game! Is there really much that can be said about the catalyst for Telltale Games that hasn’t already been said? I doubt it. But if you’re one of the few who have yet to experience the tear-jerking experience that is the first season of the Telltale epic, then by all means jump straight in at the earliest opportunity. And if you like it as much as the rest of us, you can even jump into it all over again to try those daring and cowardly options that we couldn’t bring ourselves to choose first time round, and all whilst earning that beloved Gamerscore. Point and click type adventures not really your type of thing? Nonsense, everyone needs some of Telltale’s Walking Dead in their life.

The Walking Dead: Season 2 – Play

So, it may not have been quite as heart wrenching as the first outing, but there’s still some of that fine Telltale magic to be found in The Walking Dead: Season 2. With yet another fantastic story, and that same excitement as each episode builds towards the climatic finale this is another you’ll want to be jumping into if you’ve yet to experience the thrills of what is possibly Telltales best series. Of course if you’ve already visited these series on the Xbox One and the Xbox 360, we can’t say you’ll feel all those incredible moments giving quite the same kick, but hey, it’s a story game, and it’s a damn fine one too. You want this in your collection.

The Walking Dead: Michonne – Play

Who are you? What is this…? These are the first words I proclaimed at my TV as possibly one of the only people to have played through every season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead without actually ever watching more than the first episode of the TV series. 10 minutes later, I was hooked once more. The Walking Dead: Michonne may be a much shorter experience than its full-length counterparts, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t some explosive creativity to be found nestled within the games short and sweet story. Whilst this one is probably better saved for a rainy day or an afternoon binge, the gameplay still retains the classic feel of the series and the story still brings about plenty of those hard to make decisions that make us feel so bad. But hey, another great story, another you need to play if you haven’t already so what are you waiting for?

So, it’s time for The Walking Dead to shine once more on Xbox One, and whilst many of us have already experienced the delights of the series through one console or another, what’s the harm in going back to enjoy it all again, especially when there’s some extra point scoring achievements to be had once more. After 20 years of playing every game I can get my hands on, I can now be found selling my soul for anything Resident Evil, Gears of War, or Gamerscore related... all of which will be mastered after a good cuppa!
