Shoot ’em up with Deep Space Shooter

No squad. No backup. No second chances. Deep Space Shooter blasts onto Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC.

Available today for ÂŁ4.19, this one arrives delivering a no-frills vertical scrolling-shooter that throws you straight into hostile territory. Published by Valkyrie Initiative and developed by Altair Game, this is pure arcade survival: you, your ship, and an overwhelming wall of enemy fire.

An automated deep-space station has sent out a distress signal. Communication has gone dark. You arrive to investigate. And immediately regret it. It’s standard SHMUP fare.

At A Glance

  • Game: Deep Space Shooter
  • Developer: Altair Game
  • Publisher: Valkyrie Initiative LLP
  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S Optimised, Xbox One, Windows PC
  • Price: ÂŁ4.19
  • Genre: Vertical Scroll-Shooter

A Classic Arcade Setup

Deep Space Shooter keeps things refreshingly straightforward. An automated station in deep space sends an alarm before going silent. You’re dispatched for reconnaissance. Moments later, you’re staring down waves of unknown hostile spacecraft.

There’s no dialogue tree. No branching narrative. Just escalating combat and the simple choice between victory or destruction.

It’s a throwback premise that fits perfectly with the vertical scrolling design. The screen moves upward, enemy formations flood in, and the challenge steadily intensifies. You know the drill…

Increasing Complexity, Relentless Pressure

This isn’t a leisurely space cruise.

Deep Space Shooter ramps up its difficulty gradually, introducing more complex enemy patterns and heavier resistance as you push deeper into the unknown. Early waves ease you in, but before long you’re weaving through tight bullet spreads, dodging flanking ships, and reacting to sudden ambushes.

It’s the kind of experience that rewards reflexes and pattern recognition. Memorise attack waves. Position carefully. Stay calm when the screen fills with projectiles.

And accept that sometimes, you’ll explode.

At ÂŁ4.19 across three versions – Xbox Series X|S Optimised, Xbox One, and Windows PC – it’s positioned as a quick-hit arcade experience rather than a sprawling space epic.

No Way Back

Deep Space Shooter doesn’t pretend to be anything it isn’t. It’s a focused vertical scroll-shooter built around escalating combat and survival under pressure.

Available now on Xbox consoles and PC via the Xbox Store (Optimised for Series X|S, in that Xbox One version, or for Windows PC), it’s a straightforward invitation: launch into deep space, confront unknown forces, and see how long you can last.

Out there, it’s just you.

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
