Can you defeat the invading hordes, save the land and – most importantly – Defend the Rook?

It’s quite simple really – in Defend the Rook you are tasked with defending the titular Rook, pushing back enemy forces, saving the land and staying safe. With roguelike elements, tactical calls and enough strategy to keep you going time and time again, this is a tower defense game like no other, and it’s available to purchase and play right now on Xbox and PlayStation.

Having released on Steam in recent months, it’s time for Klabater and One Up Plus to push a new tower defense plan to the masses, releasing on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 for some £12.49. At least that’s the price of the Standard Edition of the game, yet if you want to go further and harder, it may well be worth consideration of a purchase of the Defend the Rook – Supporter Edition for £16.74. It’s that which includes the Supporter Pack with included Artbook, Devbook and Soundtrack thrown in.

Whichever edition of the game you decide to grab, Defend the Rook covers the usual tower defense bases, mixing in tons of strategy and tactics as it goes. Saving the world and defending that Rook won’t be easy, but you will have access to a host of traps and barricades, the chance to build, upgrade and more, whilst deploying Heroes should become second nature.

But Defend the Rook hits hard with roguelike ideas too, and that means you’ll find yourself constantly working through procedurally generated stages in which each and every fight is unique to the rest.

If that sounds your bag, but you need more, we’d highly advise you to take in a read of our full review of Defend the Rook on Xbox. We’ve dropped a 3.5/5 score onto it, taking in the enjoyable turn-based action, the great enemies and the lethal loot possibilities. Perhaps the story could be better and upgrades do occasionally feel a bit hit or miss, but on the whole this is a game that is capable of delivering a pretty good tactical affair.

There are some key game features to enjoy too, with all of the following in place…

  • Deploy your heroes to outsmart the enemy! – Enjoy more tactics than your average TD game, whilst fighting through waves of enemies.
  • Turn the tables on the invaders with the aid of devastating spells! – Overcome the odds and outsmart the enemy.
  • Build and upgrade your towers to survive the onslaught! – To survive you’ll need to utilize more than just your heroes wit and prowess! Careful placement of towers and upgrades will be necessary to ensure victory.
  • Place traps and barricades to defend your castle! – Use these wisely to funnel and confuse the invaders. Wreak havoc amongst their ranks and break up their carefully manicured ranks!
  • Become a champion to save the kingdom! – Do you have what it takes to save the land? Jump right in and enjoy a set of procedurally generated roguelike turn-based battles like no other! Every battle fought is unique.

You can pick up Defend the Rook today from the Xbox Store, playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. It’s on PlayStation and PC too.
